This is what happens when China makes cheap suits and sells them through Kmart/BIGW etc

This is what happens when China makes cheap suits
..Wasn't everything RD sold made in India / China / other sweatshops?

    • +6

the problem is that RD's way overpriced for products made in India/Bangladesh/China

    • +3

This is what happens when you sell cheap shit for a huge profit margin and take the customer as fools..

    • +2

IMO Roger David was WAY too expensive for the quality of the product.

  • +10

Oh no. Where will I buy a plastic suit for the races/my real estate agent side hustle?

    • +7

      tarocash/yd/the toilet store

  • +24

    still overpriced…

    • Yes I agree ….

  • +5

No way, got some when they had 90% off some stuff on here, and I think then it was a fair price. Got some boots for $20 that were RRP of $180, still not sure if the were worth $20.

    • can't see shoes on the website

  • +7

Don't mean to sound unsympathetic to the people losing their jobs but after looking at the Palm and Floral Men's shirt ranges & their RRP, I'm not surprised RD has ended up here.

    • +6

      This.

      • the exorbitant rents from the greedy Westfields of the world driving vendors up the wall.
  • +1

I thought at first, David Jones, but looks like its Roger David. Phew. I still have like $3000 GC waiting to be used and definitely don't want to loose all of it!

    • +4

I still have like $3000 GC unsecured creditor card waiting to be used

      FTFY

IS THAT why the David joines 10% gift cards are always sold out when I want to buy them…

  • +2

lol wonder where all their shoes went….just disappeared from all stores and online. They were really the only decent thing they sold.

    • Onsold wholesale or went to the garbage tip.

  • i just did a quick check on some random stuff, and there's nothing in stock

The meth addict model wearing the floral print shirts on roger david website doesnt help

    • +1

He looked angry in all of the pictures. I even remembered his looks when it was shorts and then realised what I was looking at.

    • +1

same problem for Cotton On male models… where did they find them!

    • +1

I had to check to make sure you werent being slack, but fair call. Another bad move not mixing up the ethnicities, we arent all skinny white folks.

Too boot while I was there the prices are still terrible, will have to be 80 plus before its worth while

      • self-appointed ethnicity police is the cancer of Australia
someone browses a catalogue, complains about the race rather than focusing on the clothes
        /facepalm

  • +5

At 60% I still can't find anything of good value. No wonder they are closing down.

    • second that…..way overpriced!

  • It's not because of China, look through the t shirts they are selling that's why there closing lol.

  • What about in store deals? 60% off too?

  • +1

Do they still have the modern 1950s fashion range left or is it just 1940s stock left?

    • +1

Makes Fred Flintstone and Barney Rubble Fashion trendsetters.

  • These clothes look like trash no wonder they are closing and with the site they way it is.

  • Truth be told, 4 years ago I bought the BEST pair of work shoes from Roger David (Melbourne) that were on sale for $100 or $120. They looked great, were very strong and took a lot of abuse and walking, and were comfortable. Too bad I forgot them in a hotel room overseas this year - Im still regretting that til now as I haven't been able to find a replacement pair and dont have the box for them to help me track down another pair.

    • Even if you did it would probably have been an unlabelled or RD labelled box and woupd get you no where. All their stuff is chinese made crap mainly so you won the lucky dip, you should buy a lotto ticket.

I have a couple if suits from there but the pants wore out badly and the jackets are all that can still be work, but I am not a douche that mixes jackets and pants so they will end up at vinnies most probably

  • +2

    60% of everything

    what about the other 40%?

  • They usually run 50% off and then that became the norm, im glad my gf quit two months before they announced it !!

  • bought some good work shirts from them 10+ years ago but the nowadays their biz shirts just feels papery, cheap and uncomfortable

  • +1

    From their 'about us' ;

"Our focus has always been on our customers, giving them fast access to trends, modern suiting and fresh young silhouettes. We stock our stores with what we love and set out to create retail spaces which resonate with our target audience and offer an exciting range of merchandise"

If they had actually executed this they may have survived….

  • im not surprised they are closing, 60% off and still no good deals, just shows you how over priced they are

  • i hope the two male models got paid heaps for their photos, theyve basically wearing the entire mens clothes range!

  • Still looks expensive. I'll still plan to head over to their physical store tonight and see if the prices there are any better compared to their online store.

    • Let us know. Thanks

      • I didn't really see anything memorable. In a corner of the store, they were selling clothing items priced at 4 for $40. Managed to get two pairs of jeans and two shirts. I noticed that the store was selling polyester blended suits for $120. These suits do not show up on the website. The store I went to (Werribee Plaza), did have shoes for sale. They were discounted down to 70% I believe, but, again, I didn't look too closely.

        • ok, thanks. Polyester suits are strictly no for me..

  • i wish them well……60 % still is not attractive

    • It will increase once the store is closing down to its final days. Prob maybe has high as 80% - 90% off

      • 90% off the crap no one else wants.

  • I bought a suit online from RD a couple of years ago and I'm pleased with the fit and the price. No complaints from me.

  • +1

OP perhaps amend title to 60% Off not of.

  • +1

Roger David wishes all its employees a merry christmas!

  • +6

In spite of giving zero (profanity) about Roger David as a brand/franchise, still feeling all the feels for the staff who will be losing their jobs around Christmas time. Worst timing possible.

    • Absolutely right.

    • +3

True, could they not have pulled the pin 1 week latter, closed last day of the year, could have had a bonza boxing day sale and the workers could have at least enjoyed xmas as employed

Some companies deserve to die a painful death, like this one

  • Only three stores left in the entirety of Adelaide, I thought they were more widespread.

Ed Harry on the other hand have 11 stores, based on a scan of Google Maps.

  • +1

    Sales lift marginally.
Roger David now paying customers to take clothes away.

  • +2

    Now 70% off

  • It's now 70% off at all stores however they just announced this morning that this Sunday (9th Dec) would be their last trading day for all stores in Australia so you'll probably see that number rise in the coming days.

For people in Melbourne - Chadstone shop is gutted and gone. Highpoint is still there but doesn't have that much stuff left - mostly in XXL size etc.
