Help Me Find My Next ~ $150 Headphones!

So i purchased a paid of Jaybird X3's and was promised the world. Anyway custom EQ is on point, but that battery is hella bad! i get between 2-3hrs on a full charge (which in reality is how long it takes me to decide if i want to walk to the kitchen or not at work). Anyway, luckily i purchased a JB Hifi warranty (which i never really do but did this time) and i thought i'd exercise my right to claim this under warranty because this battery is burning quicker than bloody global warming!

Speaking to the girl, she showed me a pair of Beats, couple of Jaybirds, a Sennheiser, and a JBL

The issue is theres just as many awesome reviews as there are bad for each.

If it helps, i mainly listen to Hip Hop, Underground Rap, Metalcore, Alternative & Punk

WWJD?

Update: So after a tad more research, i left with the Jabra Elite 65T. It has the BT5 i was after and got them to price beat HN. I once again purchased their extended warranty after I was left very impressed with how they dealt with my X3's. Thanks for all the help!

  • I have these philips shb9850nc, the bass is really strong when watching YouTube and movies (the sound effects- explosions, are really good, feels more like a surround sound experience to be honest), the bad reviews are that it’s fully plastic, but I have used it a long time normally now (1 year) at home only, and I find the quality really fine, nothing to be worried about.

Don’t know how you use your headphones (chucking on table , put in bag without protective cases, or keep dropping them or sit on them) if you don’t do these things, plastic seems fine to me, but if you do those things then I recommend buy metal headphones.

Bought my off Kogan using voucher so pretty cheap, and sweet deal

    • Thanks man. Ye I chuck them on the table but not to the extent that ive ever broken any enclosures. I'll definitely check out your phillips

      • Don’t really know how people use their headphones (only reviews for any headphones some of them just breaks them), not really logical to me but to be sure if you want one that has long endurance (headphones with metal on the flexible parts is best) but haven’t come across any that are metal though

  • I have Sennheiser CX Sport's which I think are the similar to/same as the CX6.00.

They have a very refined sound, balanced sound signature compared to X3 … which is often hard to appreciate due to terrible sound isolation. The fit is fine and it's sealed properly but it seems like the tips block almost no noise which makes it hard to appreciate the sound quality. Can probably fix this with alternate tips such as comply. In a quiet environment they're way above the X3's in sound quality IME. Battery life is 2 or 3 hours. They feature APTX-Low Latency profile.

    • Oh thats great feedback thanks! I was trying to get away from the 2 ton3hr usage time unfortunately. That's what I'm getting now and it really bugs me that I'd have always plan ahead and juice up prior to lunch.

Do the 2 bricks annoy you being so high up on your neck?

      • Not at all.

    Heres my two cents,

I'd probably recommend a Shure SE215 Bluetooth, KZ ZS4 + Bluetooth cable (With APTx) or the Beats x/Airpods

Im all in favour of the Beats x, if you use Apple Eco system, its bass is quite good (Not muddy) and sound quality is clear. Some drawbacks is the terrible rubber case included, long af cable and the wind noise

KZ ZS4 is an okay earphone, warm but the bluetooth cable is average as that stuff has disconnection issue to a degree, only recommend if you want some IEM and sometimes bluetooth.

But if you could stretch you budget for a very easy to use and convent earphone, ill go with AirPods, they're quite nice clear output a bit bassy, except for the fact that you look like a idiot when you wear em. Some drawbacks, wind noise and plastic case gets scratch easily

Lastly the trusty Shure SE215 (Bluetooth $187 @AddictedtoAudio), very good warm earphones with some good output, durable. Some drawbacks no APTx, some wind noise, not that convenient to put on sometimes.

Bonus: if I was you and wanted to invest a bit more on some earbuds for better options ill go with like Bose Soundsport easily one of the best. As for Neckband ill go with Sony Wi-1000x + Comply Foam Tips
However Jaybird X4 does look promising, ill probably buy those if I needed a sport earphone

    • Hey thanks for your input I probably failed to mention this is a premature purchase. I was hoping my X3s would take me through to when BT5 headphones were out so I could then invest in. A decent pair of true wireless earphones.

  • if those are your options, i dont know. But if theres an option for AUDIO TECHNICAL ATH M50X, get that. got it 3 years ago, one of my finest purchases ever.

    • I'll check them out. Thanks

best headphones to buy at abit higher price range is the massdrop 6xx, you wont find better at that slightly higher price point.

    • hey thanks for dropping in! These are more for work use to drown all co-workers around me when they annoy me. I'm more after buds rather than over-ears.

      • You should be looking at getting noise cancelling then.
