It's in the upcoming catalogue, so should be available in-store as well.

Cool, I'll check it out, thanks.

  • didn't know they're microwave safe

quite a few reports on exploding in/after MW

    • +1

I think that has to do with Thermal Shock (ie. From the fridge into the microwave).

    • +5

Perfectly microwave safe. Have used this set for the last 6 years.

ditto. I've used mine for the last 13 years. If you are one true OzBargainer, then you'd head off to Ikea. Their Oftast dinner ware looks really similar to a Corelle but at a fraction of the price.

        https://www.ikea.com/au/en/catalog/categories/series/34711/

        • I have a few of their (IKEA) bowls, but I found they don't fit into my dishwasher as well as the Corelle. Basically the curved edge of the Corelle helps the bowls sti with less angle, compared with the IKEA bowls.

Other than that they are practically the same quality wise.

        • They do seem quite the bargain - barely $8 for a similar 4 of each in the Corelle set (excluding the not-very-nice mugs).

        • You don't buy Corelle for the look but for the durability and resistance to breakage.

No chips and very unlikely to break when dropped.

Parents love Corell, buy nothing but it.

I would search "Corelle Complaints" and "Corelle Shatters"on google before buying this. Apparently the Corelle sold in Australia now is the US manufactured product that is built to a lot lower standard then the European product.

Wow neg. votes for suggesting people do some research go ahead buy the stuff your choice but i personally will not buy a product that sends shards 15' in each direction when it shatters or breaks and sends shards flying when sitting untouched on a bench. Some reviews here note that this is the American consumer affairs not the Australian. https://www.consumeraffairs.com/homeowners/corelle-dishes.ht…

Anyone care to explain the negs? or can i just assume they were given by Corelle owners who can't face facts.

        • +2

maybe next time include a joke about "high yield investment crockery" and you'll get the pos votes ?

  • +1

go buy the ikea equivalent for half the price

Not really an option for most of the country.

  • corelle almost feels like hard plastic.

i still prefer the old china / porcelain feel. i have no kids to feed though.

    • lol I'm accident prone, and being the Queen of Plastic/Clutter, it's harder than hard plastic
We have fine china - but only for photo shoots.

  • Is the appeal purely longevity?
Feels like canteen crockery to me :(

What do they mean non-break, exactly? I dropped a Corelle plate onto my kitchen floor and it exploded into a million pieces 🤷‍♀️ Is this a new kind of Corelle?

    • +1

      Eh, it's break resistant.

I've had and seen Corelle drop heaps of times, never seen it break before. That being said if it drops from too high, hits a grain of sand or uneven ground it will shatter as the force is focussed onto a small area.

      • +4

I've had one shatter but, to be fair, it was moving at rather high speed when it hit the wall. Serves me right for ducking.

        • +1

Sounds like a “What happens when you’ve been caught cheating on the wife” incident.

@donotuse: No, just her way of expressing anger at something that I can't even remember at a time she was under extreme stress.

If your porcelain dishes and bowls are full of little chips at the edges due to rough handling, then Corelle if the answer.

Yes Corelle does shatter way worse than regular porcelain/china. In a chart perspective, its got a plateau of break resistence, beyond regular porcelain, then it cliff drops to the bottom where it has a minimum 50 shard shatter.
