  • Damn it! I paid $750 for it earlier this year from JB Hi-Fi. I haven't opened it yet, I wonder if they will accept returns this late lol.

    • Why haven't you? easy setup

      • I was saving it for when I move out later this year. I sent an enquiry to JB Hi-Fi, hopefully they will come back with good news!

Why not buy the one for $500 and return the $750 one with the $500 one receipt?

          • @Tyson: It's 30 days for returns, OP mentioned earlier this year so I assume not a recent purchase.

          • +2

@Tyson: Hang on, am I missing something? Apart from getting 'newer' stock of the same product, I'm not sure I see the benefit in doing this?

Doing this doesn't change the OP's total spend on this product, since the OP will only be refunded $500 and still be out $250, putting them back where they started

@GreenGuava: Because he would then own the $750 one which he paid $500 for. So it's like double the bargain. Take back the inferior $500 product and get a $750 refund on it. 750 - 500 + 250 = $500 profit.

You'd think with these sort of bargain hunting skills I wouldn't be broke all the time.

@beefsandwich: All good guys. JB Hi-Fi have allowed me to "return" the item and refund the difference as a once off. I have to take the item to the nearest store and show that it's still sealed. Thanks JB Hi-Fi!

  • This or the JBL 5.1?

    • JBL has more features. This thing is a bit outdated.

      • Correct me if I'm wrong, but this one has Chromecast built in, and the JBL 5.1 (unfortunately) does not.

What features do you refer to? Other than the removable speakers (which I think is great).

        • I’m a patient man, will wait for the JBL. Read some reviews and the onkyo is average.

Chromecast I’ve already got from the previous TGG offer

          • @Owgasm: I wish JBL had it built in. I'm just thinking better cable management.

This review seems to put the Polk in the same quality range, with built in chromecast:
            https://blog.son-video.com/en/2018/05/review-jbl-bar-5-1/

For the same price ($950 total):

I wonder how they actually compare.

            • @Canberran: When I first got the chromecast I was shocked with the power supply cord as well.
Only yesterday, I stumbled upon a USB to chromecast power cable! Didn’t look any further but perhaps this is our solution!

              • @Owgasm: I used to power my Gen 1 Chromecast via USB from the TV and it worked fine (from memory).

However it's still a separate device plugged into the back that also takes up 1 HDMI and 1 USB port. My point simply is that I'm hoping for a world where Google is integrated into everything.

I have my TV wall mounted, and looking at the (insanely expensive) LG Wallpaper TV's that are super thin and lie flat against the wall, I'm excited for a de-cluttered future.

Personally I've got high hopes for the (delayed) JBL Link Bar with built in Assistant. I think it's the future. Really hoping that future LG Wallpaper TV's build assistant into their soundbar/TV Hardware bars.

                Just my two cents :)

                JBL Link Bar:

                • @Canberran: Wow.
Will it retail at $999 as well?

The dilemma of picking up the run out or the new one as per usual.

                  • @Owgasm: Unfortunately no word on RRP for Australia and it was delayed due to an unexpected demand.

It is $400 USD though so I don't see why it shouldn't be under 1k

  • No Dolby Vision Pass-Thru support. Was really tempting otherwise :(

  • This model has been out since 2016, is it end-of-life, is this reason for the discount ?

  • How does this compare to the SONY HTX9000F ?

  • I had a listen over the weekend and it was pretty rubbish. But they could only demo it with music. Has anyone heard Atmos through it?
