I just saw an article saying Woolworths had sold all its petrol stations in Australia. I’m just wondering how this is going to impact people buying e-gift cards for 5% discount.

Yep. This is not a surprise.
Apparently the deal entails that Woolworths are still going to give discounts etc. I wonder if they will re-brand them Esso, as the company that bought them do Esso in Europe?
Mobil.
Haven't seen Mobil in years. I hope they will get more competitive with fuel, but sadly I doubt it.
7-Eleven sells fuel on behalf of Mobil.
I have Mobil in my small country NSW town - Junee. Plus there are a few other Mobil stations around here, from Wagga Wagga northwards.
The Mobil branded and independent (who proudly announce that their fuel is Mobil) stations are consistently the cheapest in each of the towns in which they operate.
There are 57 Mobil branded stations in VIC and ~35 in NSW. They are popular in regional towns over major cities.
The article I read said the fuel will still be supplied by Caltex.
If Woolworths branded stations stop taking egift cards I'll never buy fuel there again, as my local independent station would now be cheaper.
I understand there's a five year deal to continue the 4c discount vouchers however.
Many independent petrol stations get their fuel from mobil.
In my city (Adelaide) all fuel is sourced from Birkenhead (ExxonMobil). The best thing is the fuel all comes from the same tanks and is distributed to all stations, while some people believe a certain green and yellow chain has magic fuel that will clean your engine while giving more power and fuel economy to any car. Yet it all comes from the same tanks.
Also just because all fuel is sourced from Birkenhead, doesn't mean they are all the same. They don't just have 3 tanks for 91, 95, 98 etc.
Yeah and your independent station might tamper with fuel/pumps, but we'll never know.
Just go to Coles Express and buy your fuel with Flybuys Dollars.
I monitor my fuel usage, and regardless of whether I purchase it at an independent station or one of the major chains, fuel usage is roughly the same. If someone's tampering with the pumps it should show up.
A friend works at Coles Express and it's consistently the most expensive place in my city. I have never purchased diesel there, and probably never will.
I have a Coles Express around the corner that is on average 10-15c per litre more than the Caltex or 7-11 literally down the road 1 minute. And yet they always have more cars there than the other two. Probably helps they are next to McDonalds in a fairly lowish socio-economic area.
@AdosHouse: Ppl go to Coles express since they're getting a 'discount' from their shop q docket
I use the RACT member card to get 6c off here in Tassie with United. Not sure if you have anything similar on the mainland? Some unmanned stations give you 12c off after 6pm down here, but they are fairly remote unfortunately.
Unmanned servos? I have never even seen one in Brisbane Northside.
But we do get 4c a litre off with RACQ at Puma, I believe.
"Woolworths Just Sold All Its Petrol Stations in Australia"
they have committed to it, it's not a done deal yet - FIRB.
"While the new deal is unlikely to encounter the same problems the BP deal with the ACCC, it is still subject to Foreign Investment Review Board approval."

FIRB only ever seriously investigates anything where a Chinese entity is involved, and politicians have beat up some rhetoric. Everything else is allowed through to the keeper.
Much akin to ASIC & the banking sector.
Been in the making for a while hasn't it?
