Okay I am sort of like a semi-rep here as they kept on sending me with promo emails (someone would call that as spam :) and I am sorry for those who bought the same ThinkPad just last week because it seems Lenovo really wants to offload those ThinkPad Edge 14/15's. They have just released Edge-specific coupon code — SAVEMOREONEDGE

  • Save an additional 5% when you spend $669 or more on Edge 14" and 15" ThinkPad laptops.
  • Save an additional 8% when you spend $749 or more on Edge 14" and 15" ThinkPad laptops.

That means the special at the moment ($749 ThinkPad Edge 15) would be $689.08 after the discount. Very good spec for the amount of money you pay:

  • ThinkPad Edge 15
  • Intel Core i5-560M (2.66GHz)
  • Windows 7 Home Premium
  • 15.6" LCD with LED Backlit
  • Mobile Intel 5 Series Discrete GFX Chipset with 512MB ATI Radeon Mobility HD 5145 Graphics
  • 4GB DDR3 RAM
  • 500GB Hard Disk Drive 7200RPM
  • 6 Cell
  • 1 Year Warranty

Or a simple add-on to bring the $739 Edge 14 above $749 so you can get 8% off (instead of 5%). For example upgrading to 9 cell battery, use the coupon code, and you'll get the following Edge 14 for $716.68

  • ThinkPad Edge 14
  • Intel Core i5-480M (2.66GHz)
  • Windows 7 Home Premium
  • 14.0" LCD with LED Backlit
  • Intel Integrated HM55 graphics
  • 4GB DDR3 RAM
  • 500GB Hard Disk Drive 7200RPM
  • 9 Cell
  • 1 Year Warranty

Do note that ThinkPad Edge are "budget business grade" notebooks that's best to compare with Dell Vostro or HP ProBook. They are not T-Series (no rollcage, quite a bit thicker), nor consumer grade IdeaPads.

    Just looking at this…..

    good deal….

but given that win7 is 32bit version on these laptops… can only address 3gb (or there abouts) you wont get the full 4gb usage!!..

just thought I'd put my 10c worth in!
    lol

Just bought one of these (last week, the deal was a little bit worse), and I can confirm you can ask them to install Windows 7 x64 for the same price as 32 bit.

    • Yes when you are in the ordering page, you can select Win7 x64 as a $0 option. It's strange that it's not the default on a 4GB box.

  • Nice.

  • Is ThinkPad Edge inferior to Thinkpad?

    • ThinkPad Edge is just a product line in their ThinkPad range, which is traditionally targeting business users. So is ThinkPad Edge inferior to ThinkPad T or X-series? Yes, although those costs 2x as much.

  • hi Scotty

i am after a laptop for a graphics student. how does this compare

    http://www.centrecom.com.au/catalog/product_info.php?product…

    thanks

    • Compared to the thinkpad edge 15, the one you linked to has worse cpu and graphics, slower hard drive and not so good customer service.

      • ok, thanks

    • G560 - their consumer line. Although I think G560 is actually quite nicely designed (comparing to G550), but a ThinkPad Edge would be far better. The keyboard is a hybrid between the traditional keyboard and a chiclet keyboard with full key travel, and some argue that it's even better than the T-series (subjectively, as I uses a ThinkPad T410 :)

  • I have a ThinkPad for my work laptop… great unit, can't fault it. Damn good unit for the price!

  • How does the Thinkpad Edge 15 i5 compare to Macbooks with regard to creating music and vocals with mbox and pro tools? My son has been told that Macs are the best but at more than twice the price I need to know if they are worth it.

Please advise if the Lenovo thinkpad edge 15 i5 a viable alternative to Mac or if there are any better choices available with good sound? Thanks.
