Google Pixel 2 XL (Brand New and Not Open Box) Seems to Be Very Cheap ($650) at Geardo Are They Trustworthy?

So I was looking to buy pixel 2 xl and I found it cheap on geardo (https://geardo.com.au/Google-Pixel-2-XL)

I thought it was weird because it was cheaper than the refurbished one here (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/414892)

Are they safe to buy from? I've read some negative comments about them, but it was mostly for refurbished rather than brand new.

The price is very tempting, but Im rather sceptical

They have Paypal and have had deals posted on Ozbargain before so I'd say they're legit enough to order from. Pixel 2 is now a year old and superseded so the price isn't that unrealistic. Good job on finding a bargain.

    • Thanks, do you know if all pixel have the 2 year warranty with google, as long as its new?

      • I don't think this apply to HK stock. Also might worth look at this deal. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/414892

Yea, thats the same deal I mentioned in the post.
I actually asked google support and they said as long as I can provide the IMEI and invoice it fine.

  • The $650 price is excluding GST and Shipping cost.
Total price would be around $734 (at least for me in QLD).

    • Yea makes sense, still ends up being cheaper than the refurbished one currently advertised.

      • It was posted as a deal here actually a couple months ago, at the same $734 shipped price.

A few neg votes and comments in their previous deals that you should be aware of.

Yea I've read a few of them. Im just hoping they mostly apply to refurb model and not the brand new ones.

I had the EXACT same questions / concerns.

I ended up taking the plunge and just bought two Pixel 2 XL's. One "brand new" 64GB, and one "new" (probably open box) 128GB (for wife and me).

I'm feeling pretty good about the 64GB being unopened. A bit nervous about the 128GB one, but I really wanted the extra storage space and took the gamble. Will report back later with a full review.

Haha, yea I might just buy it. How long did it take for it to arrive (and what state you in)?

      • Only just bought it yesterday, so will let you know when it comes. I'm in NSW.

        • Yea, I bought it last night as well haha. I'm also NSW (Sydney), hopefully we get it soon

I actually just purchased a pixel 2 for my wife from geardo because it was so insanely cheap.

Paid with PayPal for a bit of security and was pretty nervous, no information from them after about 10 days so I emailed asking if it had been shipped etc. I received a reply within 24 hours stating that the product would arrive between 5 - 15 days from purchase as mentioned on the purchasing screen but still no tracking number or indication that it had been shipped or where it was etc.

Then yesterday (14 days from purchase) it arrived at my house via courier, everything in a new box, sealed. The phone works perfectly, the charger is a Hong Kong plug but comes with a (very cheap looking) Australia adapter.

I can't guarantee that it will work as smoothly for everyone as this is my only dealing with geardo, but it worked for me.

Oh thats good to hear you!

I think I will just take the plunge and buy it, I always have the warranty if anything goes wrong anyway

      • If it comes with a cheap adaptor check it does fast charging (it'll say when you charge). It's the difference between a couple hours and 30mins to charge.

  • Any more feedback on this?

Well, my Pixel 2 XL 64GB (brand new) and Pixel 2 XL 128GB (new open box) arrived in the mail today.

As promised, here are my thoughts on the ordering process with Geardo. Skip down for the TD;DR version if you want a summary.

Similar to one of the above comments, after purchasing the phone, I didn't get any notification of my order's progress from Geardo. There's no "order shipped - in transit", tracking number, or anything like that on the website. 9 days after purchasing the phones (7 business days), the phones suddenly just arrived on my doorstep via the courier.

Having not bought a Pixel 2 XL before, it's hard to know for sure what a "brand new unopened box" device is supposed to look like. The only seal is a piece of thick semi-translucent tape across the top of the box. The tape doesn't look like a cheapy DIY job - but then again, if you were REALLY trying to be deceptive, yeah I suppose it could be faked but it would take a decent amount of effort. For what it's worth, the tape / internal packaging looked identical to Pixel 2 XL unboxing videos on YouTube. My impression is that both devices probably are actually new, as advertised.

Interestingly, both my 64GB "brand new" and 128GB "new open box" devices had the same piece of tape across the top, suggesting that they were both "brand new". I know Geardo state that some of their products listed as "open box" products are still sealed, and I suppose that must have included my particular 128GB device.

Another interesting finding was that the devices not actually from Hong Kong, but from Canada (I've lived in both places, so I'd know what to expect). The power brick was the US-style two vertical prongs, and not the UK-style chunky 3-pronged one that's used in Hong Kong. In addition, all the paper documentation came in English and French (standard practice in Canada).

In any case, I think this is preferable simply because the US-style power brick is slimmer than the UK one. And since there is only one international variant of the phone, it's still the same Pixel 2 XL device with all relevant cellular bands no matter where it comes from.

The phones themselves work perfectly fine, and do indeed "fast charge" with the supplied power brick and Australian adaptor. The adaptor is fairly cheap - very similar to the $1-2 ones you find on eBay - which means it does wiggle a little when stuck into a Australian power socket.

One final comment: I purchased optional tempered glass screen protector from Geardo together with the phones. It works fine, but lacks all the additional extras you normally get with a glass protector set (wiping cloths, lifting stickers, etc). But it works just fine.

TL;DR: Overall a positive experience with Geardo. Took a gamble with the purchase, because the price was borderline "too cheap to be true" costing so much less than other retailers. "New Open Box" probably does actually mean new, but my experience might not be reflective of others since my "open box" device appeared to be sealed and therefore "brand new". One last bit of advice would be to buy a decent case for your device, since you're buying it grey-market and device warranty might be harder to access.

    Thanks for your detailed message.
I actually bought it and it arrived yesterday(same day as you) and I had the same experience as well, the phones working great so far and it looks perfectly new.
Only difference is I actually received tracking detail and I was constantly able to check on the status.

As for warranty, I spoke to a google assistant and they had informed me that we would still have 2 years warranty (Even oversea model) as long as I have the IMEI and invoice.
