  • can’t beat a softbox!

  • Except maybe durability of the umbrella frame its so much faster to set up then the older ones where you need to put each rod in one by one.

i was going for sexual innuendo, but whatever floats your boat…

  • Hi Rep, Could you do a deal for Neewer 26 inches Octagonal Softbox
    https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/product/B079JFTHYH

  • Can any photography aficionados tell me… I have a nephew (25 y/o) who is into photography and certainly is learning a lot/knows his stuff.
I think he has aspirations of further developing (no pun intended) his skills. Might this be a good buy as an Xmas present?
I have little to no idea about this equipment…

It depends what lighting equipment he already has. This one you use with studio strobes or speedlights on a lightstand so only useful if he has those already. If not maybe a large 5in1 reflector works as a better gift if shooting in natural light.

      • hmmm. ok, will have to see if I can find an opportunity to look into when next visiting.
Many thanks for the info chris.

    • IMO opinion this would be a really cool present, but it would kind of necessitate a decent number of other things, namely a flash, triggering system, light stand and head.

its kind of like buying someone tyres and saying "now all you need is a car and you'll be ready to go driving!"

I see your point, thank you for adding.

What sort of photography is he into? If he's out on the street taking impromptu or candid shots of people or architectural shots it might not be too useful. If he takes portraits or wedding photos or posed objects (like say product photos for websites) then he probably would find it useful.

He has done nature scenes and advertising shots for a Cafe… they've been excellent, very pro' looking.
He has mentioned the possibility of doing weddings so it could well be on the cards.
He's also very tech savvy with website/internet … stuff so probably at this stage he's not hard focused (no pun intended) on any specific realm.
If one aspect took off, I imagine he'd home in more on, but as yet not sounding subject specific at all.
Thanks for adding your helpful comment.

No worries at all.. Sounds like he could probably find a use for it (assuming he has a flash/speedlight to use it with)

  • I have a 120cm softbox the same as this design. I find them a bit too big. The make the light go everywhere and you can't control it that well.

    • this octa will be sliiightly more focused, but what you really need is a grid
