Asking this question on behalf of a friend and his partner. They are permanent residents of Australia and will need to apply Schengen visa for the European trip they are planning next year in April. They both have full-time jobs but only got savings of $4000 which will grow up to $18000 by April next year. what can be the consequences if they apply for the visa now? They want to start this trip with Greece.

Have they looked up the requirements for the visa? Is there a min amount you need?
They need to look up the Greece consulate follow the instructions for non-Australians and get the requirements.
What country is their passports issued from?
Do they have an Australian passport?
