ASIC Invoices Never Arrive - Then Hit with Exorbitant Late Penalties

Has anyone else here experienced this?

For the 3rd year in a row, our ASIC (company renewal) notice / invoice never arrive. Neither at the registered business address or PO Box. Ironically the penalty notice arrives!

We've never had any mail go missing from either the business mail box nor the PO Box. Only these ASIC notices don't arrive.

Evidently we're not the only ones who have experienced this.

What about you?

the renewal date is the same every year. why does the company secretary forget it every year?

Was going to say the same thing - OP, why do you need ASIC to remind you to pay the renewal fees at all? Their reminders are, afaik, a courtesy only.

I had rates sent to an old address (my fault, changed all addresses except one). They sent me a court order and demanded damages of about $1,200 because I failed to pay. Apparently they had so much trouble locating me but I the court order found me easily enough.

They had all my other info up to date. Work address, work number, mobile number… They just kept sending demand for payment to the one address that was outdated.

TLDR - arguing with a government agency is like arguing with the stupidest person of the strongest gang.

I beg to disagree. The hear us loud and clear. Whether they make any sense of our words or they're just using our frustration as masturbatory material is the real question.

How is this different to not paying a rego, driver licence, domain name or insurance bill on time? A reminder is most helpful, but you are still ultimately responsible.

If it is important, probably want to set your own reminder.

    • If you run a business, I guess it's similar to not sending your invoice to a customer, then sending them an overdue invoice with a huge penalty.

I'm almost certain that there is some kind of discrepancy with the our account / registration, as it is three years in a row this original notice / invoice hasn't arrived.

Ironically last year, when we received the penalty notice, I wasn't even able to get successfully get them to send me an invoice, and had to deduce the BPAY details from a much older notice and hope it was correct.

Just another scam to shaft or intimidate more money out of you. Why the hell do we keep putting up with this nonsense?

  • I use Google Calendar and enter all regular payment dates in it to remind me that they are due as well as setting up a direct debit for payment amounts that never vary.

That way even if some bills never arrive they'll still be paid.

I'd have thought that a business would be even more organised than I am.

Too hard, just sit on your hands and be spoon fed.

The responsibility of sending an invoice lies on the party seeking payment.

    • Believe me, many reminders have now been set to follow up with ASIC each year.

But without even the original invoice / annual review statement, I have no idea when it is due!

Anyone can find out when your company renewal is due without any annual review statement.

Enter your ABN. Click on your business name. Tada!

Are you registered with asic online to lodge forms yourself?

Once registered, the annual company statement is no longer issued via paper, but only online. Late fees will still be issued via paper. They make this very clear when you register online.

    That's my guess.

Why do people need to post the exact same thing on Whirlpool and OzBargain?

    3 main reasons tomsco.

    1) They are seeking attention. Trolling etc.

    2) They are are too dumb/lazy to work things out for themselves and want to be spoon fed.

    3) They are insecure and they are waiting for the answer they want to hear to be confirmed by 'experts'.
