Advice on Tyre Brand/Supplier for BMW X1 2014

Dear OzBrgainers,

I was traveling around Melbourne with my car during the Cup Day holidays and got a flat tyre somewhere around Pakenham. I knew that my car doesn't have a spare tyre and the tyres are run to flat, so I've continued to get to a tyre shop.

Few kilometers further, I could feel that the car is really shaking and wasn't sure if it's a good idea to continue or not, so I've called a tyre shop in the area and they managed to deliver the tyre replacement to me for extra $40. Problem is they didn't have run to flat tyre and gave me a normal tyre. They also said the other tyres are not in a good condition and it's better to change them all. Original tyres are Goodyear brand and car has 60,000 KM on the clock.

Now I'm trying to find a good supplier for a proper set of run to flat tyres, but not sure if I can trust these online suppliers or not. If anyone can help me to find a good brand/supplier with a reasonable price, I'll appreciate it.

Options I've found so far from a local dealer:

  1. Goodyear : 4 x $300 = $1200
  2. Continental : 4 x $300$ + $100 cashback = $1100
  3. Michellin : 4 x $365 = $1460
  4. Pirelli : 4 x $300 = $1200

Tyresales.com.au

Continental : 4 tyres for $1108 including changeover + 1 year road year assistance for tyres.

Thanks in advance

Tyre choice is not a decision where I would focus primarily on costs.

My recommendation is to discuss with your local tyre retailer which of the four mentioned options are best suited to the driving that you usually do, and then get those professionally fitted, balanced, etc. The dealer will most likely also dispose of your old tyres.

Buy normal tyres, not run flats.

Any brand name that has a 4 for 3 sale on at the moment.

    • Then what if I get a flat again? No spares!

      • Get roadside assistance membership or one of those kits for flats and put it in the boot.

  • Can run flats be replaced with normal tyres?

I have heard that run flat tyres tend to not last as long as regular tyres but 60,000km is very decent in my opinion - too bad they are so $$!

Looks like Bridgestone has a by 3 and get the 4th tyre free deal on run flats for your car:

    • Thanks mate, this is really good. How is Bridgestone comparing with good year and continental ?!

    • Also try tyroola

This should be right size runflats if you have 17" rims do your own search if you have 18" or 19" rims

add $80 to $140 for delivery, fitting and balancing - depending on where your fitters are located
