Google Flight Expedia Cheaper Compare to Expedia Itself

Hi all.

I found reasonable fare in google flight and it is re-directed to Expedia.au

But when I search the same routes in Expedia.au website itself, it shows higher fares and even the airlines are different

Should I buy from google flight (expedia)? Will Expedia cancel the flight later?

Thanks

  • This is normal. Try searching for the same flight on https://iwantthatflight.com.au/. You might find that the same flight will be cheaper still. :)

    • Bingo! You are right. I found the same flight with slightly cheaper price (with bestjet). I don't understand why Expedia website shows different result.

Does bestjet has great customer service (just in case need to contact them)? Or buy from Expedia?

By the way (maybe need to open another thread). Does Asiana provide free transit hotel? I am travelling to London.

      • I have booked from some unknown sites(to me anyway) before using IWTF. They are all the same, trying to stiff you with credit card fees, just need to watch out for that. I would say most of the sites will have offshore payment processing, so if you are not using a credit card with no international fees, you might have to watch out for the 3% currency conversion fees. Might be cheaper if you book from an Australian booking site in that case.

If you are booking budget airlines, sometimes it is cheaper to book through their own site as the extras are a bit cheaper if you add them during booking time.

One thing I always do is check the airline booking reference number when the booking confirmation email comes through. Plug the number into the airline's website to make sure the booking exists with the airline. That way you can be sure that the website didn't just do a runner with your money. Good luck.

        • It sounds scary, will stay away from unknown sites. Thanks so much for the tips. Lucky, I have master 28.

I found BestJet is not recommended.

The fare in the airline website is $400 higher. I guess Expedia (through Google Flight) is legitimate? It is about $150 higher compare to BestJet but for peace of mind I don't mind.

          • @Smaland: I have used BestJet before. They are ok. Like I said, just need to watch the credit card fees. Some sites only let you have the advertised price if you have certain card, eg. Mastercard or Visa, credit or debit, etc. Seems quite random.

I usually just pick the cheapest site and check the booking reference number on the airline website when I get it. Haven't been bitten so far. It might take a day or two for the booking to be registered with the airline. Usually I book tickets a month or two in advance, so plenty of time to re-book if something goes wrong.

            • @geek001: Thanks again. I will buy insurance after buy the flight tickets. But will it be too late if they run away with our money or will insurance cover the fares if they (bestjet or Expedia) cancel or alter the tickets later?

              • @Smaland: If they run away with your money, just do a chargeback on your credit card. I don't think insurance covers this. The important thing is to check your booking on the airline website, that's Asiana's website based on what you have said. Your booking confirmation should always have an airline booking reference, you will need that to check-in to your flight anyway. Once you have your airline booking reference number, it should be quite safe. If your booking reference number doesn't come up with anything, you will need to call the airline to confirm your booking. I had to do this one time, when my booking reference number returned nothing, with China Southern Airlines, but everything checked out, just their website was slow to update.

I have never had an instance where my tickets are altered without my knowledge, so this unlikely I think.

  • +1

Just check that Google flights is displaying prices in AUD - I believe it defaults to USD.

    • Yes, I double check those. When I click Expedia button, it re-directed to Expedia AU website and all prices and total in AUD.

  • I didn't think you could book flights on google flight.

    • After select the flights, there are options. One with the airlines and one with Expedia.

  • also search via incognito mode

    • good idea, will try this

  • Print out what you want and take it to Flight Centre the same day. They will match the airfare and book it for you. Then if you have any troubles enroute you contact Flight Centre.
PS Don't buy any of that Captain's Promise BS.
PPS Obviously buy some travel insurance though.

    • Did this and got my amex 100 dollar back from another deal. I didn't really go to Flightcentre but did it online through those online chat agents.

      • Thanks for the tips. I will try online chat.

    • Thanks for the tips. I will steer away for those gimmick. I just need the flights and sure I always buy separate insurance for overseas travel.
