Want to low and slow bbq ?

    What does that mean?

  • -1

    Vendor in title please.

  • I'm the unofficial Kamado Kamando: AMA

    • Cooking area of the Akorn vs the classic Joe? Would like the Big Joe but 2.5k is a bit much.

      • The Akorn is a 20" diameter compared to 18" on the Joe, BUT:
        * The Joe can have two levels cooking at once if you buy the second grill inserts
        * The Joe is ceramic, not steel like the Akorn, and holds heat constant for hours

I bought a ceramic Kamado from Costco for about $700 on special (22" I think) and I absolutely love it.

        • The Akorn does come with a second grill which I’ve never used

22” is close to big joe for a lot less money

        • No chance you have a photo of this price do you? I bought it at 899 and I'd love to claim the price difference on my credit card's price protection!

        • There is a ceramic kamado available from char griller for ~798 dollars. The sales person said that this is similar to the ceramic akorn sold in US, but a bit smaller at 18 inches. Apparently, US version is 20 inches.

          • @FlyFire: The prob with the bunnings one is the quality isn’t great , and it doesn’t come withe deflectors and would be a limited warranty

    • Is the Series 2 worth the price difference?

        For a 1000 price difference, I'm gonna buy a series 1

      • Definitely not at this price. The 3 major changes are an upgraded top vent, newly designed seal, and an airlift hinge to reduce the weight of opening the lid. None of these are worth it at this price point IMO; the end cooking result is still going to be as delicious and smoky.

  • Made in China with poor quality ceramic. Look at a Green Egg or Primo instead. Primo is my fav made in the USA and a lot of advantages with the oval shape.

    • I have a primo, got it at the home show 7yrs ago and still going strong.

      with poor quality ceramic.

you been reading Green Egg advertising material or something?
Plenty of KJ owners would debate that 'fact'

I have a Kamado Joe Series 2 that I bought last year on a 20% off sale. I absolutely love it and haven't even contemplated using the gas BBQ since. The quality of the Series 2 Kamado is top notch. Maybe the only thing I wish it had was a better trolley with storage to put the accessories.

At that time I could justify the price difference between the Series 1 and Series 2, but this is an absolute bargain.

I checked out the cheaper ceramic Chargriller Kamados at Bunnings. I didn't like the single piece fire box, the ceramic walls were thinner, the vents were cheaper, the hinge was floppy, the felt seals, the bamboo trays, etc. It was however half the price though and I couldn't honestly say that the Kamado is twice as good! Time will tell if a ceramic Chargriller will last as long as a ceramic Kamado. I feel I will still be cooking on mine 20 years from now.

The Akorn is a tremendous value for the versatility that it offers. I recommended it to a mate who wasn't sure about forking out the dollars for a Kamado. He loves it but will most likely upgrade to a ceramic Kamado when he wears out his Akorn. The ceramic ones will last a lifetime.

    • After putting mine together today I would have to agree with you on the chargriller ceramic

There is no comparison between the kJ and the chargriller and I doubt the chargriller will last the same time and lacking the warranty

It’s definatly a step way up from the Akorn as well
