Watching The Australian Cricket This Summer

Howdy,

As most of you may know, ODI/T20 is no longer televised on free-to-air TV and you must have a Foxtel subscription to watch the game.
I've been looking for ways to watch the game and found out that it's live and free in full HD on cricket.com.au with no ad-breaks. Just wanted to put it out there for those who can't afford Foxtel. I don't know if it's free for just this game or for the entire summer. Hopefully for the entire summer.
Note: You must have a cricket.com.au account to watch game (free to register)

Copied from their official website:
You can stream FOX CRICKET’s coverage of this Sunday’s Australia v South Africa ODI and the South African Series via the Cricket Australia Match Centre. It is also available to FOXTEL sports entitled customers via Foxtel Go.
The coverage of the Australia v South Africa ODI, the South African Series is also available in 4K on Foxtel’s 4K Channel as well as on Foxtel Go.

I think this is a bad move by cricket Aus not to provide it free to air.

NBL suffered. V8s have suffered. Sponsorships suffer with the smaller audience.

https://acricketalive1-a.akamaihd.net/b331245ddd0547d5bd58eb… - This is the link to the direct stream, so if in the future CA take down the stream on their website maybe check this to see if it's still up.

    • That link didnt work for me.

    • I tried playing via VLC, it doesn't work. Guessing they took it down? Or am I doing it wrong.
Can you check if it works for you?

ODI/T20 is no longer televised on free-to-air TV

Thank God. Now if they just take it off my regular radio stations as well I can get on with a cricket free summer.

Don't hate it just because you don't like it…

    • You're complaining about something that's on free-to-air TV/radio. Com'on now.

  • Thanks OP. Totally forgot it was on now that its not on free to air.

Not missing much, we are getting creamed

Free until Fox Sports streaming app launches

Which seems will at least get these ODIs and T20I against South Africa.

Bugger. Hope the streaming app has lower prices. Foxtel is a rip off right now for me.

  • And when kids stop playing cricket they will blame video games.

    • Similar happen to F1, decline popularity due to broadcast in payTV but F1 CEO got in trouble saying something along the line, "we don't care about poor people".

      • +1

In fairness, I never thought F1 cared about even middle class people

  • The provision of free viewing via the Cricket Aust app is, apparently, a 'stop-gap' measure until Foxtel can provide the required streaming service.

I can't understand why Foxtel haven't managed to get the service up and running by now, but wouldn't it have made more sense for Ch7 to be compelled to show these games as free-to-air until the Foxtel streaming service is available. This could have been part of the contract awarded, and limited to rebroadcasting the Foxtel broadcast and commentary. I'm pretty sure that Ch7 would have welcomed some ratings, because they had bugger-all else on Sunday, and the costs would have been minimal.

I can remember the World Cup (football) fiasco, and how SBS benefited from that. I would have expected Cricket Aust to have a better contingency for a similar scenario.

I'm far from a fan of Foxtel, and wouldn't take out a subscription just for some of the cricket. I use the Cricket Aust app until it is turned off / becomes a paid service again, and then limit myself to watching my local team games live (including sausage sizzle), supplemented by free-to-air broadcasts.

    • I'm not fan of Foxtel due to it's ridiculous pricing but what's planned is you can subscribe just for sports now with their new streaming service coming soon. If it's cheaper, I might consider it.

And yes you're right, Channel 7 should have showed the game live.

At least channel 9 have rights for the World Cup and Ashes next year.

Looks like we might be able to stream the T20 series vs India as well.

      Quoted from here

The cable TV provider hopes to launch the new service to coincide with Australia's opening cricket Test match against India in December. It had been targeting it's first executive match – last night's one-day international against South Africa – but is stress-testing the product to avoid any embarrassing incidents, such as Optus' FIFA World Cup fiasco.

    • So FoxSports launched Kayo Sports - it's basically a sports only app, with all of FoxSports in there.
It's $25 a month, and currently first 2 weeks are free (can cancel before it kicks in).
      https://kayosports.com.au/

I hate foxtel as much as the next person, but i think it's a good move to split out sport into a netflix style model.

  • Thanks Smogul,I had no idea about this.
    Watching shield game live.
    Happy days.
CA have made a huge mistake,
Most comments are saying the same.
Don't kill the goose that lays the golden egg!!!

    • No worries.
If you'd like a better service, Foxtel just launched their new sports streaming service Kayo Sports which has a 14 day free trial if you're keen!
You can chrome cast to your TV without any issues.

  • Need Kayo now

  • The other option is to sign up to KayoSports and cancel in the first 2 weeks.
    https://kayosports.com.au/

Kayo is FoxSports new netflix for sport thing. Smart move from Foxtel to do this, but I reckon it'll hurt foxtel subscriptions in the long run.

    It's $25 a month for basic.

  • Sorry 'Kayo'iam not paying for what I have watched all of my many decades on this earth FOR FREE.
    CRICKET AUSTRALIA HAVE SOLD OUT.
