Asus Lyra 3 Pack AC2200 Whole-Home Wi-Fi System $299.00 + Delivery @ Wireless1

130

While looking for a WiFi Mesh system I came across of this one which is the best price I could find.

It looks like $200 cheaper that most of the sites.

I bought one set and it arrived the next day.

It has some bad reviews but mine is working with no issues, the only secret is updating the firmware to the latest available.

After 2 days, we are quite happy with it, including my son who love to play online games.

I work from home and having an stable internet WiFi with ethernet port in the satellites is essential.

  • How does this compare to Google Wifi?

      Privacy.

    • I think that they are similar products, but I was looking for "AiProtection" powered by Trend Micro, with no licence needed. what is available just in the Asus one.

This was another point that kept me away of the Google WiFi:
"The Google WiFi lacks a web-based interface and it relies solely on the app for both the installation process and the maintenance of the network."

      • What's the issue with that most things are like that now days

  • Which one is better.. This or Asus Lyra AC 1750??

    • The Ac speed

  • Really interested in what the best mesh system is.

    • Mesh should be avoided if at all possible. A semi-commercial AP mounted in the ceiling will cover any single story home.

I had Google Wifi with 5 points and it was great. I've looked into all the mesh systems quite a lot and found the Asus Lyra to be pretty good too. The benefit over Google is it has Mu-Mimo and well as an extra 5ghz band. I also like how it has AI Protect as well. In a large home i'd pick one of these over a multiple antenna gaming router.

  • Also, i'm wondering other than the AiProtection, how does it compare with UBNT unifi's AP? curious…

    • I would go UBNT.
The reason is simple - AP are one of the main products for UBNT - constantly looked after.
For Asus this is one of many consumer products.

    • Unifi Ac isn't a mesh each station hard-wired but more superior

    • got it, thanks guys! that clears things up a bit.

Some general answers to clarify some of the questions:

The Asus Lyra allows two ways of administration, with an App (Tested with Android and Ipad) that allows the installation of the system and also some basic configuration, but it has also a full web-based interface with more granularity and configuration options, like the one included in all the Asus routers.

My requirements were for a mesh system with 3 devices or Satellites, with no cables between them and with Ethernet ports in each Satellite to connect devises with no wireless connectivity. For this reason, I let out of the equation, all the Mesh systems with just two units out of the box. Let apart, paying quite expensive add-on satellites.

The "Asus Lyra 3 Pack AC2200" is "AC"

I have no experience with Ubiquiti products, but the Asus Lyra allows wired connectivity between satellites using "Ethernet backhaul", if that is a requirement.

Also, the Lyra has two operation modes:
    - As a router, as any conventional Asus router, perhaps with a couple of differences.
    - As an access point, in case that you need or want to keep you existing router.

The satellites can be installed on a table or a wall.

Please, let me know if there are any other doubts that I could help to clarify.

P.S. I am a client trying to help others with my research and experiences, not associated with Asus or any other store ;)
