Thoughts on Fallout 76 Beta?

Hey all, just seeing how everyone is liking the Fallout 76 Beta.

I'm pretty unimpressed. It's like fallout 4 but without the epic story, I feel like my actions are lacking in motivation.

Gameplay is basically fallout 4 co-op. To me this means it is incredibly dated, going against something like Red Dead 2.

Enemies are still stupid.

Map might be big, but it sure is empty.

Game is too easy - you can easily take down enemies twice your level as long as you have the ammo to spare.

Screws and adhesive are just about the most important scrap in the game - and I can never find enough of it.

There are a few positives - several pretty scenes and set pieces.

In game voice chat is reliable (although is on by default, so be aware).

Being able to deploy your camp for a small fee means you can always have crafting benches available when needed (provided of course you have the materials for benches, which means you might not have the materials for upgrades).

I haven't played the beta but I just assumed Fallout 76 was merely a way to shoehorn microtransactions into a single player shooter/RPG, so it comes as no suprise the multiplayer component is lazily tacked on and I expect the game to be lacklustre at best, as much as I love the Fallout series.

    • It's all multiplayer, not just a component - its online only - but yeah seems like a cash grab.

Bad choice of words on my part, by multiplayer "component" I meant 76 itself, and getting lazily tacked on to what is in essence a single player game.

I was granted access to play the Fallout 76 beta but never downloaded it. Put off by the fact they have set times of play only.

Friends have been playing it though, with mixed reviews.. longevity is one of their main concerns for the game..

    • Yeah agreed. I played for about 8 hours today, feel like I saw about a third of the game. Not really worth a buy.

Reminds me of the 10 hours of game time in Need for Speed Payback with EA access - you could basically finish the game. Saved 60 bucks… again.

      • I'm saving my online co-op hours for Anthem and Division 2.. my mates are still adamant on picking up Fallout 76 though.. I'm like 30% though Odyssey and have RDR2 lined up next!

I think I'll give Assassins Origins another chance while I wait for Hitman 2 and Battlefield 5.

Still crossing fingers for a release of RD2 on PC… in 12 months…

We've just found out that physics is linked to framerate on the PC. Which means that you can speedhack simply by upping your framerate LMAO.

why Bethesda persists in using the engine they use is beyond me. It can barely handle single player and then they added multiplayer code to it.

(Don't get me wrong, i love the Fallout franchise).

  • I'm a huge fallout fan but i think i'll skip this, it's just wrong.

  • fallout singleplayer is broken enough, multiplayer only? think i'll skip

    I wouldn't call Fallout 4's story epic.
Regardless, I'm not a fan of these multiplayer online style games which is why I also skipped Elder Scrolls Online.
The more I hear about it the less I'm inclined to play.
