I am trying to book from (lax or sfo) to miami feb 16-28 2019, and have approx 70k velocity points.
I have a had a solid look on virgins website, and can only find flights from lax to atlanta, eveything else is unavailable.
Can any one let me know if there exists a better way to do this, or an alternate route to get me as close to miami as possible.

Also couldn't hurt to call up the velocity call centre to see if they can help you with your booking
awards.flight add on for chrome is good for showing all redemption's for various airlines that service your chosen route.

If you can't find anything on Delta, move your Velocity points to Krisflyer and make a booking on United. Business class anywhere in North America for 20000 KF/27000 VA before the rate goes up

Classic rewards flights do get sold out quite early for some destinations. One option is to book the reward flight through to Atlanta and pay for the onward flight.
From memory, AA fly direct from LAX to MIA but you need Qantas points, try classifieds for a points trade?

I checked directly with Delta, rewards flights are still available for the dates you mentioned and return fare would be 41,000 points + US$11.80.
Unfortunately, I can't help you as I only have 18k delta points.
Maybe try to see if a point conversion from Velocity to Delta exists?
