BIG HEAD - Need a Baseball Cap That Fits

Hi All,

I have a larger than average head. Around 63.5-64cm.

Can't find caps that fit me. I'm quite particular.

  • One Size does NOT fit all
  • Don't want one with an adjustable band/strap at the back.
  • Needs to be plain/reduced branding
  • Preferably black.
  • Budget: Up to $40, prefer under $30.

When I was a teenager, I had a friend lend me his 'Starter' cap, it had specific sizing which I cna't remember, but it was the most comfortable cap I ever wore. I've never found a cap that fit better since then, all caps tend to be squeezy.

Any other big heads on OzBargain?

PS Also trying to find sunglasses that are wide enough without the temple legs pressing into the sides of my face.

    That's one expensive baseball cap!

But I'm kind of curious too. Never been a cap person, but I also feel like I have a big head because wearing a cap always feels too tight and ends up giving me a migraine.

    • YEah my previous budget was around $15-20, but after trying discounted brands like puma or hudson (?) they're still not comfortable for long run.

My budget is high because I've taken into account that it's a 'specialty' item.

      • hudson = hurley

  • Haha had a similar situation. Settled with an akubra

    • I dunno, I can’t pull an akubra off. Born in the 80’s, from Malaysia, I think the baseball cap is the only headgear I look OK in especially when travelling for photos and sun shade to my face.

    Good luck.

I'm bald with a massive head. I settled for an Under Armour fitted cap in XL, but it's still too small and gives me a headache and a nasty red line around my forehead.

    • Also have an Under Armour fitted cap. Big head here too however I've got some hair on mine. My head that is.

    • What’s your head size?

The other annoying thing is that the American sizes don’t seem to have a standard translation from cm to their size, sometimes 8 is 63cm, sometimes it’s 64. In trying not to risk ordering from USA and then it coming over to be too small or tight.

  • Apparently Hurley makes some really good hats, a good friend of mine always wears them.

Also why no adjustable hats? I have a big head and dislike fitted and flexfit, always go for a bigger adjustable hats.

    • I don’t like adjustable, because the dome is not really made to the right size. They will say fits 60-63cm, but the dome is probably somewhere in the middle so feels tight anyway.

I do have a Hurley flexfit which is my current go to. But my scalp aches after a while.

    • I also tried a SnapBack but I think I’m too old for that now.

My wife says she feels like slapping me with the snap back on.

Why don't you try to contact Peter Dinklage and ask him what he recommends.

  • Have you tried the New Era fitted hats? Largest size I can see is 63.5cm
You can also stretch/beak the internal elastic band to make it more relaxed (plenty of YouTube videos on it)

    • Looks like Rebel has some, I might pop into a brick and mortar shop for once to try them out. Doesn't look promising though, they seem to size for s/m or m/l.

      Thank you.

      • MIght have to shop around to find the larger fitted sizes.
Their fitted hats are measured by cm/inches converted to their measurement system. Eg I have a 7&1/4 at home but next time I’ll but a 7&3/8
They aren’t stretchy, they just fit to the size
The biggest I can see on this other new era website is 8&1/4 which they say is 65.4cm
        Check out the fitted row

        • Oo that looks promising. I'll check it out after work today, see if I can find someone who stocks the fitted large heads. Thank you.

  • I feel your pain, I've got a similar sized head to you and was always jealous of people who could just pick up any baseball cap and know it will probably fit alright.
A big problem with the "one size fits all" is that even if it does miraculously fit around your head, the lack of depth in it will still make it really unbearable to wear. I've bought about 4 hats through BigHatStore and I highly recommend them. They have been great, good depth, snug fit and heaps of different styles.

I'vw got a big head and wear 7 3/4 new era baseball cap. They even have 8 and higher

    • Thanks I've sussed them out and I'm really loving their range. Will take the dive when I decide what I want on it! Cheers

  • The New York Yankees, Boston Red Sox and LA dodgers hat accommodate larger heads and look normal. They’re true baseball caps at the $40 mark. Many stockists in the city and in shopping centres

  • Thanks dcc. In the end I went with the New Era range, their sizing was pretty good, too bad they don't do a fitted (not flexifit) curve visor (non snapback) cap.

  • New Era 39thirty size L/XL. Took me a while to find one that big though as most stores I tried didn't do this size in the design I wanted. Best hat I've worn though, most other fixed size hats either give me a headache or they are so short they don't feel like they are on properly. The New era one comes down to my ears and is loose enough that when it is really windy I sometimes panic thinking it might blow off.

I wear ray ban new wayfarers, I find them very comfy. I wear them for both normal glasses and sunglasses.

  • New Era fitted are ok….
    Flex fit 110 s aren't bad either..

Where it's at though is grassroots fitted caps.

  • Give Slomo's office a call

  • Some baseball style hats have a "low Crown" sizing so regardless of being able to fit around the diameter of the head they just dont cover enough without feeling odd.
    Does this sound familiar?
Ive tried on some of the Patagonia hats with their 3 different sizings Low, Mid and high Crown and they had a different coverage feel to each of them.
A quick look on the Aus website shows some on sale and within your budget but not able to comment on style.
