        • Well we all know that short of nuclear, vegan "cheese" stubbornly remains its state.

What can Hungry Jack's possibly do?

          • @pennypincher98: All that will survive are cockroaches and the Vegan 'cheese'

And the cockroaches won't touch the Vegan 'cheese'

I'm willing to be $100 you've never even tasted it and just have to proclaim how horrible vegan food is online to validate your pathetic self.

Why do you even comment? Do you honestly have nothing else to do in your life? Get a job or something, make a difference in the world.

      • +1

I don't think the vegans dining at HJs are going to be the type to get offended at the word "beef" printed on some cardboard.

      • Haha I laughed at that, quite a funny oversight, but you really have to have thin skin to get mad over it, like who really cares what the box says? It's about what you're eating.

        • It's just funny because they went to such an extent to separate this from the usual (non vegan) burgers that they sell, but then just include their beef guarantee on there.

Not sure if anyone will get mad over it per se but I'm sure the vegans will notice.

          • @pennypincher98: Yeah you would think after spending marketing it so much they would have thought about the packaging :P

  • Isn't Vega a star system…?

    • +3

No, it's a character from Street Fighter.

      • +1

no it's an AMD GPU architecture codename.

      • Vega: "Daaaaaaa!"

        Me: cheating prick!

  • -4

    Yuck.

  • +1

Wouldn't mine a $2 cheese burger and not the cheesy burger as that's not very good

    • What voucher?

    • -1

So what you're saying is that it's not the normal price, because that's a voucher/coupon price.
Guess all the 10% eBay coupons are normal price too.

      • The voucher has been an ongoing offer for years.

    • -1

There no voucher for Vegan burger, only Veggie burger can be substituted, there is a difference

      • +1

There is no Veggie burger anymore.
I can confirm it works for the vegan cheeseburger.

        • My apologies, hope this tastes as good

    • Why are my neg votes always revoked!?
The price is $7.95 for two.
Voucher is in above link but they never ask to see it.

      • Once the votes on a comment reach -8 the neg is automatically revoked.

What is great to see is what is happening at my local major supermarket. Almost one whole aisle was gluten free products, now vegan products have been added along the other side. There is also now a large section of gluten free vegan as well. Also in another aisle you can buy gluten free dog and cat food as well as vegan and now gluten free vegan dog and cat food. The usual meat area has now been reduced in size.

    • +1

It’s great people can have choice. Australia used to be only Meat and Three Veg, are common to have Thai, Indian, Chinese, Vietnamese, Lebanese, etc food.

  • +2

I don't get this. If you are vegan, why would you go and order from a place like Hungry Jacks? Shouldn't you be boycotting businesses supporting the killing of animals for human consumption?

    • +8

I mean, you see how offended some people get at the suggestion of vegan food - just by it's mention for some bizarre reason, even in this very thread. You've got to start somewhere right?

    • +1

And what boycott coles, woolworths, etc as well?

    • +1

It’s companies like this that should be offering Vegan. Look how popular Lord of the Fries is, my mate didn’t even know that they don’t sell meat when he ate his burger from there!

    • +1

Should they boycott their meat eating family and friends too?

      • -1

Make sure you have double glazed windows that are permanently shut, you don't want to hear about if anyone's been having meat recently.

    • +1

Being vegan is difficult for most who go that road, the options for convenience SUCK. A mainstream chain recognising the market and offering a product is probably worth supporting in most vegan's eyes. It's going to put pressure on more chains to adapt too. Even those who just want to cut back on meat for environmental reasons would be welcoming this.

    • +1

Well, you might want to support business that accommodate your way of eating.. You know.. so more do.

    • +2

Is it really that hard to understand?

      Order vegan cheesburger.

Vegan sales go up, beef goes down.

Hungry Jacks say "hmm, let's buy less meat!"

less meat = less dead animals.

  • +4

Nice effort OP and congrats on the L post.

However I've found we get better value with this voucher mentioned in this post.

Pick the bottom left offer and get 2 vegan burgers plus small drink and small fries for $2 more. And dont forget to do your shaking!

Ps.: The new vegan burgers are great, btw. 2 patties in a burger = yum.

    • +3

Thanks for all the tips. Is their new vegan burger better than their veggie burger?

It's interesting to see how Hungry Jacks has always been on forefront when it comes to sensing the market demand and immediately adapting to it (encashing it) with a fitting product. They were among the first ones here in Australia to offer veggie burger (and hence most vego Indians are their loyal customers along with Oporto but it's much pricier - it's a big business overall), whilst McDonald's still don't have any veggie option here after years though they have them in some other countries. And now with their vegan offering, Hungry Jacks proved it yet again. Vegan business is getting bigger day by day, mostly because of increasing number of Aussies moving to vegan diet. I still feel that veggie burger will have more takers than the vegan burger.

      • +1

McDonald's had one years ago, there just wasn't enough demand for it.

Thanks for sharing.. times change and so do companies have to if they want to keep winning. I bet there's a huge vegetarian food demand in Australian market today if the food is delicious (not just raw salads or dry burgers with boiled pumpkin in it). I frequent a few Indian vegetarian restaurants and there're often long queues that we face, particularly on Thursdays and in weekends. People happily wait as there's limited supply of such food which is vegetarian and tasty though not necessarily too healthy.

  • +3

I've never eaten a vegan burger before, do vegans taste better than cows?

    • +5

      Similar, both grass fed.

    • Smells far better than dead cow for sure. Can't say of taste. ;)

    • Hilarious.

  • Their veggie burger isn't bad at all.. not sure how vegan would be though or is it the same veggie one that they are referring to? Vegan = no cheese?

    • +2

Just look on the site if you need to know.
It has egg-free mayonnaise, dairy-free cheese, and interestingly it has 2 veggie patties instead of 1.

    • I've had both and I couldn't really tell you the difference to be honest but I'm not very picky at all so take that with a grain of salt

  • +6

It still trips me out how quickly people jump on vegans. As with any alternative way of thinking the vocal minority often taint the vast majority, but I've really seldom met vegos that pushed their agenda. I hang out with far more than your average amount of greenies, and while I really never see myself going off meat it's pretty hard to argue their core beliefs.

    Live and let live man…

Well said. Are all those of your friends vegans or some vegetarians too? I find that vegetarianism isn't a cult like veganism may come across as at times, particularly in the western world. It's pretty subtle though more widely spread in terms of population.

  • Congrats on nearly 50 votes for an L plate post. Keen to try these.

  • +1

    "Vegan patties"

Lol sounds appetising. How does capsicum, corn and carrot make a patty???

    • stick it together and fry it with seasoning, yum

      • +1

Fry it together with vegan oil and vegan seasoning and then make sure you give them vegan serviettes, not the ones stored next to someone's whopper jr.

What's the glue? Capsicum corn and carrot don't just stick together naturally

        • Food sticks together nicely when blended with a bit of oil, easy enough to make vegetable patties. Probably the same way beef patties stick together.

        • +2

Re the first half of that… sure. Though I think you may have the wrong perception of it though… noone does this just for the sake of never touching animal products in and of itself - that would be absurd.

Most people are just trying to reduce animal cruelty, eat healthier (though I don't really buy that one), reduce carbon emissions, etc. They don't spontaneously combust when they touch something that has been near or on animal products. It's about just doing the best you can, what else can you ask for.

      • Add some corn flour coating to make it crisp and carry some oil.. yummier!

      • Ever tried bubble 'n squeak? That's how they make veggie patty fundamentally..

    • +1

Bubble and Squeak are delicious though fatty

  • Live and let live man…

I really never see myself going off meat

    Pick one only.

  • The vegan cheeseburger is terrible. Bring back the Veggie Whopper haha

    • Bring back? Did they get rid of it from menu?

      • Yeah, told me they don't do the veggie whopper anymore

  • +2

may contain some form of vegetable

  • Not working, comes up at $14.40 for 2.

  • +3

Would a Carlton Zero be a suitable drink match with a Vegan Cheeseburger?

    • 😂

    • This. So accurate.
Kind of like monopoly money :)

  • Ironically I hadn't 'heard about' world vegan day

    • +1

You must not have had many people over for dinner recently.

  • +2

Haha I used to eat loads of meat and loads of Maccas.
However, in life it pays to have an open mind.

Funny, that's the dude who opened my eyes to the whole food plant based diet. He's pretty slick at marketing :)

      • Yeah he doesn't seem to be selling much though except for a couple of books and youtube views. Free information pretty much.

        • I bought one of his books after watching a lot of the videos… I still haven't finished it as it's not that interesting reading about study after study after study :P

When I say he's pretty slick at marketing, apparently his organisation used to be called the Vegan Research Institute. If it still had that name, frankly, I wouldn't have watched any of their videos.

  • Anyone tried it? How did it compares to the current Vege Burger at HJ?

  • Although these patties are cooked in the same oil that cooks just the chips, some stores only have one filter pan, meaning the oil is filtered through the same equipment and filter pad that all the oil that cooks chicken products is filtered through. Probably a non-issue for most, but a bit misleading regardless.

  • +1

I'm a meat eater but I'm constantly annoyed by those who pick on vegans…I mean if you really like meat, then I don't see the problem with people eating less of it either more to go around, or less animals are killed. It's a win win situation for everyone and yet for some reason, other 'meat lovers' seem against it. If anything, I'd love more people to go vegan (but no so much that everywhere becomes vegan).

  • +2

    Veggie Whopper was better

  • I did not taste capsicum in the vegan burger

  • Excellent find, thanks for sharing, this was my dinner last night
