[VIC] Free Coffee for Year 12 Students who Mention VCE Exam Question @ Calmer Days, Calmer Nights (Aberfeldie)

920

Those who took the VCE English exam on Wednesday noticed a question with a "fictional" cafe called Calmer Cafe. Unfortunately, there actually is a cafe similarly called Calmer Days, Calmer Nights Cafe in Victoria. Students went to their Facebook page and posted bad reviews(now reversed with people posting good reviews). Um yeah. 3AW Article.

So the cafe is now offering a free coffee for those obviously stressed out Year 12 students. :)

2E Fawkner Street, Aberfeldie 3040

Aberfeldie is next to Moonee Ponds for those who've never heard of the suburb like myself.

Great way to get the early age hooked on coffee

Year 12 students can be 18? Not too young for coffee, better than energy drinks I would expect.

    • I started drinking coffee when I was 17 - how old were you?

      • My first cup of coffee was in Year 10 - I was 15. Didn't actually like it until I tried it again 2 years later.

And I was one of the last people in my group to try caffeine - others tried energy drinks younger than that and… I think you can guess how they turned out.

Up-voting for the positive attitude from the cafe, turning bad publicity into a good one (or at least trying).

At least better than their initial reaction of crying foul. Must have got some pr advice after the incident.

It's not the cafe's fault that the precious little kiddies left bad reviews. If anything, they should tell them to get stuffed instead of rewarding them.

    Update:

Cafe of English exam fame to sue education body

The students were referencing a review of a fictional hipster cafe called Calmer Coffee that featured in their three-hour exam.

In the fictional review, Jonty Jenkins takes aim at the cafe’s “exhaustive list of frappes, soy and almond milks”, “tablet-wielding” employee with a man bun and its bland, burnt coffee.

She said a simple Google search would have revealed that there was a cafe in Melbourne with an almost identical name.

    The resemblance didn't stop there.

Ms Conron said she employed someone with a man bun. She also employs a a manager who has the same last name as the fictional author of the cafe review in the exam.

VCAA literally had twelve months to prepare this exam and they couldn't even do a quick google search

  • Sounds like intentional slander
