well….let just say your desktop pc is better value, but this is still decent.

Find me a pre packaged, warranted and branded pc with a 15inch monitor and better specs (and OS) for under $559.

      • You're both comparing apples and oranges…

Branded and whitebox makes no difference.

Its an "okay" deal ut i'd wait as with newer gen chips, these prices will drop futher. Note that i3's have been at these prices (or less) for a while.

Plus its an acer so: BEWARE! you've been warned…..

    • This new range of Acers seem more reliable than in the past.

      • you're sure? all the acer's (3 laptop) in our house died after 1 year and half, magically

        • Yeah - the Timeline series is great. Had 2 of these Timelines for 2 years now. Both going very well.

No complaints over a lack of dedicated video? C'mon geeks, where are you?

Well as the resident geek I'd like to point out that as an i3 this would be using the GMA HD chipset which is roughly 10x faster than the infamous original 900 series integrated chips by Intel, and about double the speed of the 4500MHD typically found in the Core2Duo series. This is almost as fast as the Radeon HD3470 in my laptop which seems OK for playing Source/Orange Box type games.

I'll point out that this baby is perfectly adequate for playing all the worlds best games: Rogue, Nethack, zAngband, and with tweaks to DirectX it should even be able to handle ProgressQuest with no problems :). Not so good for Need for Speed, Doom 3 and Crysis isn't its forte, but what self respecting geek would choose Doom over nethack ;). Notebookcheck has a discussion of the games it can and can't handle: http://www.notebookcheck.net/Intel-Graphics-Media-Accelerato…

      • Good to see a positive geek ;)

    • very similar but not identical

  • Just to let u know. This deal is still available.

  • Just set it up - All as advertised. (Only quibble maybe for some others is the max. volume is not very loud, but its fine for us.)

My taxi driver said Budget seemed to be the cheapest around, he'd recently bought something there :)

    Thanks Budget :)

Maths: Actually its only $555 after cashback :)

BUT: KEEP THE BOX! I just realised today, in following the online process, that to get the - $79 - cashback, you need to mail in the Serial Number that's ONLY on the cardboard box! No-one ever mentioned that! I disposed of my box - I've gone back to Budget PC today to fix this, and they are going to get back to me.

I'll let you know the outcome.

      Hi Mxyzptik,
Just get the information from ACER product manager, they said the SNID number at back of the notebook can be used to do the claim.

      • +1

Thanks very much. I'm glad they don't insist on getting the SNID part of the box back they tell you on their website to cut out and mail to them.

        I'll get on with it.
