ALDI 5" Slimline GPS $139 - Your thoughts?

Hiya ozbargainers,

Special buys from 24th March at ALDI includes this slimline 5" GPS for $139 (http://www.aldi.com.au/au/html/offers/2827_17345.htm) with Whereis gocruise maps/software.

Now I know this is incredibly cheap but I need your thoughts on if it is a robust GPS to use occasionally and any experiences you've had with past GPS deals from ALDI. Also is there anything I need to know which is considerably different to the major brands like Navman (my current GPS) and Tomtom etc.

Thank you.

  • There is always the 60 return policy, if you don't like it just take it back and get a refund.

    • Ha ha….they will be sick of you by the time you have returned it 60 times :)

      • They are already sick of me returning items :P

  • It looks very much as if this runs the iGo software, previous versions did and the spec look right. 3D terrain and TTS street names are give aways.

As such its arguably the best software out there, with lots of opportunities to hack about with it, as well as download different (new) maps.

  • Heading to Europe shortly.
What maps would be available and how would I load them into the 5" GPS on offer from Aldi next week.
    Are there better options?
I have enjoyed the banter on the relative merits of the various brands.

    • If you look around, you will find appropriate maps are 'available' from the usual sources. They can also be downloaded for a fee from somewhere like www.naviextras.com

  • Bought one today, sweet GPS.

    It is running iGO9 and 2011 Q1 Australian & 2010 Q4 NZ maps.
