There’s a YHA on flinders street that’s clean and well priced if it’s jusy you and you want something cheap.
A good deal on somewhere pricey. Less than $300 would be ideal. It’s for myself and the missus so somewhere nice/romantic would be ideal

if you want it cheaper try booking through hotel sites like booking.com, trivago or lastminute.com.au
whenever i go to melbourne i stay at the best western atlantis https://www.atlantishotel.com.au/ it's cheaper but it's probably a bit out of the way for what you want
You haven't mentioned your budget, but AirBnB and look for 555 or 565 Flinders St.
Relatively decent apartments, 3 minutes walk to the casino and free tram zone stop into the city right out front of the buildings. Stick to the higher levels if you can't sleep with noise. There's a train line that runs right behind the building.
