Best Budget Android Phone for Less than $200

Hi all,

My phone just broke today, and I need to find a new mobile phone.

The phone I was using was the Uhans Note 4.
It had 3GB RAM and 32GB internal memory.
It also had Android 7.0.

The new phone needs to be under the $200 mark (including postage) unless I can pick it up from a bricks and mortar store here.

I want the screen size 5.5 inches minimum.
I want at least 3GB RAM minimum.
I am looking for as newest Android Operating System as possible.
I will be using an SD card, so internal memory size is not super important.
However, I don't want manufacturer junk to be installed that cannot be removed.
So as vanilla an Android system as possible.

Camera quality doesn't matter, as I don't use that feature much.
A fingerprint reader is essential.

So far, the only phone I found interesting is the Motorola moto e5 16GB which costs $199 and I can get that form the store.

Please list all phones that you can think of that match my criteria with links.

Thanks in advance all.

  • I like recent XiaoMi phones, with Global ROMs.

I once bought a RedMi 5 Plus (5.99" Screen, 4 GB RAM + 64 GB Storage) for ~Au$ 216 (shipped v AusPost's eParcel from some point along the way)

AliExpress watch for sales, & look at competitive deals for multiple vendors, until you find eParcel shipping at price u like.

Of course, G-d help you If your phone dies! You don't want to have to ship it back to HK, so look, after it. ;~)

Nobody seems to want to do your shopping for you… So, arm yourself with GSMArena.com, app AliExpress, and an app or a website that lets you check with bands phone has (vs your telco),,, then, invest Your Own Time to Solve Your Problem.

PS I don't recognize the Brand you mentioned… Maybe choose a better brand, next time, eh?

      • Never heard of Xiaomi ???

          Look who they replied to

          • @follow: I'm so confused. What exactly just happened?

            • @HighAndDry: Maybe joint account

@follow: OH NO I GOT IT! They replied first, then meant to just post a second comment to OP. But accidentally replied to themselves.

So they're saying - "Oh it looks like I was the only person to reply, so no one else wants to help you do your shopping. Also I don't recognize the Uhans brand." Loose use of quotation marks.

I have not been in the market for awhile now since picking up a Xiaomi Redmi Note 4X last November for around $260 AUD (bad price but was impulse urgent buy can easily get them for closer to $200 AUD delivered if you waited for sales).

If things have not changed much since then but it has been almost a year now and well things change super fast in the mobile industry I would still highly recommend the Xiaomi Redmi Note line.. Other lines that were good budget back then were the OnePlus lineup and some Oppo and the Motorola G5S Plus.

Honestly watch some Unbox Therapy on Youtube especially the budget videos, he highlights some good interesting sometimes unique special case mobile phones one of them might be for you.

Xiaomi fits all your criteria minus the manufacturer junk.. no way to get rid of that unless you do some heavy flashing and customization which I am not sure if you would be down for that and afaik they still are the kings at the dollar per performance game.

Agree with this guy - my Redmi Note 4X has been going strong since last April with no hiccups so far. Battery life is insane. Sure, it's not the most powerful phone out there but the dollar to performance ratio of this thing is insane if you don't play the most graphically intensive games out there like PUBG.

There is bloatware and shit baked in but I can easily overlook these because all I'm doing on it is music, make a few calls and the occasional youtube vid. It hasn't felt intrusive so far and I'd recommend this phone to anyone on a budget.

      • Right on.

This specific model also has an IR blaster which is a nice fun thing to have.

Cases can be had for under $10 on ebay easy. I think mine was closer to $5.

  • Another plus for the Xiaomi brand.. we have had 2 Note4X models for well over a year now and they are a brilliant phone for the money.

  • Owned a Xiaomi Mi Max and then now a Poco F1. Both did very well. Only issues are lack of NFC, and to some, lack of B28. Never bothered me.
