Asrock AB350M-HDV AM4 Motherboard $56 (RRP $99) Pickup or + Delivery @ Umart

240

Not a bad deal for a B350 chipset AM4 board, probably the cheapest I have seen,

https://www.asrock.com/MB/AMD/AB350M-HDV/index.asp#Overview

can be bios flashed and can use most of the first and second gen Ryzen CPU's/APU's (looks like up to 65W TDP)

https://www.asrock.com/MB/AMD/AB350M-HDV/index.asp#CPU

paired with a 2200G or 2600+GPU would make a decent little gaming system,

Basic board but what do you expect for the money? I would expect that these days the unit boots up with a Zen 2 cpu and then you can apply the bios.

In the old days you had to boot up with an old gen cpu, do the bios update and THEN you could use the newer gen cpu.

Obviously a pain if you dont have an old gen cpu.

Umart have been pretty good in updating the bios on two occasions for me recently, just email/call them and they will do it without issue prior to shipping/pickup,

Did you have to pay for shipping? I didn't but I bought my motherboard from an ebay store.
I bought a 1st gen Ryzen and the motherboard needed a bios update (wtf) and had to waste $16 and two weeks of my time just because of something that should have never happened in the first place.

        • I have a Umart not far from me, so I normally pickup and they did it while I waited,

@Rod M: Ah I see. It's a pain in the ass to live in Perth. Only two options are PLE (Good but expensive) or MSY (cheap but poor service) and online you have to pay $15 on average for delivery. After my motherboard issue I decided that from now on I'll pay x1.5 the price if I have to just to buy local haha.

  • What do people recommend for RAM (8g or 16gb) that is compatible with this Mobo and Ryzen 2200G?

    • +1

      Fast and dual channel.

      • +1

        Cheap too

    • MB support web pages usually have a list of compatible rams. Pick a fast and the cheapest one from it.

  • Wait, this thing support ECC. Might build a NAS & HTPC with it.

    • 4 SATA3 - not much of a nas

If you think 4 is not enough, add a pci sata card later.

I'd personally pay the extra $12 and get the Asrock AB350M-Pro4. Umart has it for $68.

    • Much cheaper than what I paid for earlier this year

    • Does anyone know whether they fixed the freezing issue that seems to be common to that specific model? (See newegg reviews)

      • That's the real pro tip. $12 more for better features.

      • +1

I had to return mine for this Freezing issue (and I bought from Kogan - so just think of the hassle I had to go through :( )

I am not saying ASRock is a cheap brand but I am at least not buying ASRock Entry level boards again - rather stick with Asus/MSI/Gigabyte.

  • the RAM that I was planning to buy are not listed in the QVL from the website, ugh!

    • Doesn't mean it won't work it just means it was never tested by the manufacturers.

  • +1

From memory, this board has a 65 TDP for the CPU, so you will be restricted on what CPUs you can pair with this board… Check AsRock website for more information.

  • damn just bought it for full price, sad days
