      • are the audio quest cables any good?
a friend had one connecting an xbox (the latest one) to an aldi tv, but i couldnt really tell the difference, I think i would have spent the money on a better tv, but they say it reduces lag/latency or something.

Oh no no no you should spend every last spare cent on the cable.

The TV has little to no impact on the picture quality. It's all in the cable baby!

      How about a serious response?

Or actually say something helpful before turning the thread into a crapshow?

  • Hey, do you already have HDMI cables? You may not need to upgrade them, even for HDR content.

    • I've got some that are still ok - some are ancient. From when most TVs were 720p. These don't appear to be compatible with ATV, XB1X and PS4 Pro with optimal settings, hence my question. So any 2.1 el cheapo cable should do the trick?

Found Selby Acoustics to be pretty good, could not fault there range, price or service when I needed to upgrade mine. Could be worth a look.

Officeworks, look at the very bottom of the shelf for the "cheapo" plain HDMI cables like a few dollars. They'll do 4K HDR fine. I have a ton connecting a heap of stuff including 4K HDR.

Anyone who claims any cable is better than another has no clue. It's digital, 1s and 0s, either they get there or they don't.

Sorry but I had a 1.4 which wouldn't do ARC whereas a "High speed" cable would. Also Ethernet over HDMI is another factor. I don't care for all the gory details but it's not as simple as you say. And this despite the facts some places say ARC doesn't need a special cable, well for me, I did.

      • Just get one of the cheapo ones from Officeworks and try. I am using these cables for 4K HDR including ARC no issues.

I'll grab a couple of Officeworks cheapies.

I don't think its as simple as 1s and 0s anymore. My older cables (I'm talking OLD) are definitely not compatible with hdr and some other features whereas the rest are.

      • There is definitely differences but a $5 cable from Selby is fine and will support everything

You are the kind of person Gerry makes his money off of.

This one will make your signal go three times the speed of light, jump through walls if you place a HDMI cable on each side of it, and if you use it in your rituals, will ressurect Nikola Tesla

    • I'm really not. I don't think I've paid more than $10 for a hdmi cable my entire life.

    • Brilliant! Check the Q&A and reviews :-)

I recently got the 3 metre Amazon Basics cable to use with 4K HDR and it works well. Cheap too.

    • 3 pack of 1.8m cables for $17.99 with prime. Done!

  • Of course the joke is that every one of the commenters in this thread is getting ripped off when they buy other products just like cable buyers. :D

    • That's not true at all. Some cables don't support certain features or resolutions. I've had several cases of TVs flicking off every minute or so which has been fixed with a better quality cable. That being said you can get a decent quality cable for $5 that supports all resolutions, 3D and other features.

      • Odd that you downvoted me considering the articles YOU posted said what I just said. Hmmm

      • And they clearly show your statement that all HDMI cables are the same to be false.

  • Need a HDMI 2.0 cable for pc usage.

Will just be plugging into my GPU and then into the Monitor.

No idea atm what is good or more importantly what isn't good.

No idea on length but definitely don't need anything more than 2 metres I think.
