Anyone spent one one of these who”d swear by it?

    • +2

Lol would prefer the elite controller if I was going to spend that much.

    • +2

Haven't bought one myself but most reviews rate it as at least as good as the elite controller, but more comfortable and lighter weight.

The major con being the fact that it's wired only.

      • I think I could live with a decent cable length if it trumped an elite unite in other metrics.

  • I believe there is no mic monitoring on these when plugging in a headset to the controller - may be a deal breaker for some. Still a good discount though.

Side note, for the best sound quality, use a DAC/Amp with digital out from the Xbox using HDMI or optical.

Buy an Xbox One Elite controller for this kind of money (assuming you can find one).

    • +1

Why though? This has the same customisability as an Elite plus it has the performance enhancing RGB and its cheaper

      • +2

        Few differences:

-Back paddles are in a different position
-Razer doesn't come with as many sticks
        -No mic monitoring on Razer

Most reviews give the edge to the Elite. Whether that is worth ~$40-$50 is a personal decision.

All I know is that these controllers when aged and worn out are no longer called ‘Wolverine’ but they get renamed ‘Logan’

razer lightweight build and poor warranty

    • Can you back this up? If you have a warranty claim you go back to JB Hi-Fi, shouldn't be a problem. And, from the reviews I've read, the failure rate on them is no worse than the Elites.

      • all razer products are lightweight build and usually only 12 months warranty…. is this one more? you reckon jb will do 2 years? can you back that up? will jb even do 12 months on a controller - now that's an interesting question….
        elites are shocking 2

        • I'm not looking to get into an argument over it, but my 3yo Razer mouse begs to differ. Build quality and robustness can often be a matter of personal perception, I've actually held the Wolverine controller and found it to feel quite solid and sturdy in my hands. Yes, it does have only a 12 month warranty, but so do the Elites. Since this is advertised on JB's own website here and here the onus will be on them to honour that warranty. After the initial 12 months you could possibly argue your case for a faulty product under Australian Consumer Law, but that would be a matter for someone more knowledgeable than I to give you a firm answer.

@Chazzozz: lots of people post about razer quality levels - my old sidewinders are well over a decade - heavy use of more recent deathadders lucky to get a year… I see you don't know if jb's will honour 12 months on a controller. maybe you could check that out….

            • @petry: I've got the Razer raiju controller. Razer were quite nice with the warranty. They replaced it even though it was two months out of warranty.

That being said, I've had a few Razer products and quality can be hit or miss. I've had a Naga hex mouse that has a dodgy cable, you move it slightly and it will disconnect, they wouldn't replace this on warranty. I've had a Naga molten edition and I've got a Naga epic chroma - molten edition runs fine, but the epic chroma sometimes stops responding for a few seconds, even though I'm less than 1m from the receiver and mouse has no interference inbetween.

My raiju had issues where face buttons weren't responsive after a while and one of the triggers on the back seized up. Removing the trigger didn't stop the button from remaining jammed. They replaced it without me having to send it back even though it was out of warranty, just had to send them a photo with the cable cut (even though it's an easily replaceable micro-usb cable). Replacement has been fine, feels like they've had a revision since the launch model I bought, buttons are more clicky and feel more durable.

            • @petry: I ended up pulling the trigger on this deal (no pun intended!) and bought the controller. I'm quite happy with the feel of the construction and the action of the buttons/triggers, so build quality seems fine. It also fits my hands very well, better than the standard wireless Xbone controller I'm used to (the handles are ever-so-slightly fatter). The connection cable is very generous, easily 3m or more, and is a heavy braided construction with an inline break at the console end.

I double-checked with the salesperson at JB and she confirmed the 12-month warranty, and that if I have any trouble during then to bring it back with proof-of-purchase. As I've mentioned, I've got a 3yo Orouboros which is still going strong so I've been pleased with Razer's robustness thus far. I'll just have to see if it's the same with this device, too.
