Honeymoon Destination Is Asia: Bali, Thailand, Singapore?

Hi all,

I'm planning for my honeymoon trip for April 2018 and would like to get your feedback on selecting the most suitable option.

We prefer natural scenic views (like beautiful beaches, waterfalls) and our main focus is on relaxing. The total duration would be 4-5 days.

Currently, I'm thinking about Bali, Thailand or Singapore. If anyone you had similar trips to these destinations, could you please share your travel plans, cost, and any recommendations (e.g. hotel selection) ? Also any websites with offers is appreciated.

Thanks in advance !!!

  • If you like natural scenic views, probably not Singapore. That's more for pampered relaxation at Sentosa or Marina Bay Sands.

Between Bali and Thailand, again for natural scenic views probably Thailand (at a beachfront/coastal resort at Phuket for example) because Bali is also mostly inside resorts more inland (from experience).

*Caveat: Have not taken honeymoons at any of these places, only more normal holidays.

If you're able to get a Delorean, I hear the Wild West is quite nice.

Bali is a bit closer to fly to. There are plenty of nicer resorts along the Kuta-Seminyak strip with nice beach views for relaxing. For waterfalls and such, you'd probably be more heading inland to Ubud.

Tough crowd … I assume people didn't notice the date provided was 6 months ago.

Based on your references, I would go to New Zealand.

      • Cheers for the further rec.

Couldn't think of places where OP would get both waterfalls and beaches nearby, so didn't think of NZ.

  • Singapore and natural scenic views like waterfalls and beaches? Good luck.

Ubud in Bali, or Langkawi would be my recommendations.
    Maybe try the Philippines too?

  • I would definitely go to Thailand over Bali for a honeymoon, I'm from Perth though so Bali for me is such a cheap option. I still think however Thailand has way more to offer than Bali. You should definitely do whatever you have to do to be able to spend more time where ever you go. 4-5 days you're going to be in and out.

Whatever you do if you stay in Bali, don't stay in Kuta unless your under 23yrs old and even then it's the last place you want to be on your honeymoon. Seminyak is is alot nicer, way less hassle from the locals selling stuff and wayyyy less drunk Aussies. Probably more Europeans than anything, mind you I haven't been for 2-3yrs.

I stayed here on a ridiculous deal I won, so not sure about costs.

We hired a scooter and rode to a few local waterfalls etc. Big Tsunami hit here years ago so there's things to see to do with that. There were tons of people on there honeymoon etc. Hired a car and drove to Phuket after there. Was a good time and better than places I been to in Bali. Ubud and Seminyak in Bali are awesome… I think the dinners at Jimbaran Bay are overrated, probably wouldn't worry about that in Bali. Overall we preferred Thailand. Went to Bangkok also, that was awesome! but not what you're looking for.

Oh, and if you like fishing. Big thumbs up for this.

Oh… and Singapore I wouldn't worry about unless you don't mind spending LOTS of money.

    • Wow that that resort is expensive at $550 per day.

      Whats the ozbargain option?

  • If you want to go to paradise, Bora Bora!!

(Do not even think about the cost!)

    Sorry I should have answered the OP's question;

    Bali, Thailand or Singapore.

    I have been to all those places multiple times;

As much as I am going to say, head to Koh Samui and stay at the Conrad or W - these two high end properties.

I am going straight to left field and suggest you go straight to Bangkok. Wait, before you neg this post, hear me out.

Stay at The Peninsula Hotel by the river, luxurious old world charm hotel, super relaxing, opulent property. You can stay and there and never need to go to Bangkok city proper, even though the hotel's boat will take you across in no time and you will see the hustle and craziness of this megacity.

There are dozens of uber-luxurious spas in Bangkok so you can pamper yourself. Do not even consider those cheap $10 massages when you are there! Spend a proper $1,000 per couple where you spend 4-6 hours being taken care of and treated like a million dollars. Spas I would suggest are Elemis Spa at The St Regis Bangkok (which is my favourite hotel in Bangkok https://www.drunkonthegoodlife.com/single-post/2017/11/20/St… but may not be as super relaxing at The Pensinsula) .

At night, dine at some of the best restaurants in the world (namely Gaggan which is number 5 in the world, or Suhring which is the second best in Thailand).

After dinner, head to one of the many rooftop bars, sip of champagne, cocktails or whatever you want … and watch the stars.

My favourite rooftop is Cru Champagne Bar, followed by Moon Bar

Yes it is a crazy city but amazing, you will be blown away if you do all the fancy things!

    Krabi-Thaland.
Get yourself on an AirAsia SYD-KBV via KL flight (approx 12hrs), preferably flat bed.
There will be a 2 hour layover in Kuala Lumpur which will go quickly, then 90 minutes later you'll land at Krabi International where a 40 minute transfer to Ao Nang beach awaits.
Check yourself into a blissful beachfront hotel where you can watch the sunsets from your sun lounger chair. On the horizon you'll see small islands which are perfect for day tripping or you can take a longboat around the giant cliffs to Railay Bay and enjoy a cocktail and lunch at the magestic 5 star Railay Bay Resort & Spa - why not linger for longer. So that takes care of your beautiful beaches prerequisite.
Next day have a freshly squeezed fruit energy juice with your fully cooked breakfast before heading inland to explore the jungles of Tubkeak National Park or other nearby parks where you'll discover the waterfalls you seek - try jungle treking by a much loved elephant.
Now you'll need to revitalise those aching muscles at the various thermal springs near Krabi before heading back to your accommodation to change for diner. And there are a multitude of dining experiences, by beginning at a beach side bar will be a great starting point before discovering where you'll dine.
Leave your Amex at home, in April you'll be able to feast on a shoestring - but if you're planning for Easter you need to book early.

  • Head to Singapore then jump on one of the royal Caribbean cruises that takes in Thailand and Malaysia there is a 3-4 day version that just runs a loop pretty much year round). You get the Singapore experience plus the beach holiday, the cruise night for night is cheaper than hotel accom in Singapore. In my view Signgapore doesn’t rank highly as a standalone destination. If you do choose Bali and want to escape the bogans without breaking the bank check out The Westin at Nusa Dua.

  • Realise that mid-April in Thailand is Songkran (water festival) and this can be a heap of fun, or the most annoying thing you have ever encountered depending on the type of person you are. In Phuket they limit the celebrations to a single day, other places it can go for a week.

    • I'd avoid songkran and save it for another trip any girl who likes you will rub powder over your face and it's not a good look on a honeymoon you'll start thinking your a movie star and most wanted.
There's 7000 islands in the Philippines if you can't find an island you like there's something wrong.
Cambodia Sihanoukville has turned into a chinese Macua with daily shootings and kidnappings from Chinese mafia on unpaid debts from their own and are driving out the Khmer people.
If your only going for 5 days Singapore because it's safe clean diverse and you'll learn from other who live there where to venture next and would pay a better dividend than getting sucked into another tourist trap on the next tour.
      Phuket can wait
      Bali

  • Been to Singapore 7+ times. If you're after scenery, night life, food, culture or relaxation, there is somewhere else in Asia that does it better. My vote for you is Ubud in Bali or one of the beach resorts in Thailand.

    • He's only going for 100 hours and most of that will be in the bedroom.
Singapore will take 30 minutes max on a bad day from leaving plane to be standing on the train outside airport.
Denpasar 2-3 hours waiting in immigration then getting hustled by taxis and money changers before they make it to the hotel.

      • Denpasar isn't Delhi or Cairo…. last time I was in Denpasar was about 4 years ago. Immigration was about 50 minutes (it takes about the same amount of time to go through immigration and customs in Australia if you don't hold an Aussie passport or an epassport) taxi you just go to the desk and and order one there. I changed all my money before hand in Malaysia.

  • What about Australia?

    • Well that would be too easy, its better to try to find better beaches overseas, and then fail when you realise they are full of rubbish and other issues from tourists etc.

      • And some people love the experience of travel, other cultures, other places, seeing things that simply do not exist here.
