Advice: HP Pavilion X360 14-CD0072TU Purchase

Hey All,

My elderly grandfather is looking at purchasing this laptop. He is currently in palliative care and as such can no longer sit at a computer any more.

Is this a good deal? and is it worthwhile sticking with hp for their customer service?

  • Do you think he'll get any benefit out of it being a 2-in-1 rather than just a regular laptop? 2in1s are usually more expensive and come with worse specs for the price. I would have suggested go for a traditional laptop with a larger screen (eg 15.6") to make it easier to read and cheaper for the same specs. if you hang around ozbargain one's bound to come up. Maybe even look for one on ebay or gumtree etc.

At the same time, I have an x360 and never had a problem with it, so if you need a computer asap and don't care too much about cost I don't think that would be too bad!

    • I'd actually go the other direction - unless grandpa does a lot of typing, a tablet with detachable keyboard I think makes more sense because in tablet form, it can be significantly lighter than either a laptop or a 2-in-1, and I feel for someone who's bedridden, lightness might be an important factor.

It really depends on what grandpa does though, but I can't imagine many likely use cases where even an onscreen keyboard won't be enough.

      • Thankyou both for your replies. Really appreciate the feedback.

He has a tablet now but finds it to finicky. While the weight is ideal, he much prefers a computer.

The weight of the laptop is an issue as he can't put too much weight on his legs, so the lighter the better but without going to a tablet.

To be honest I'm not entirely sure how much it will be used and for what for. But I plan to set up team viewer so he can still access his pc.

The 2 in 1 is just handy, will he use it ? Probably not but he likes the idea of been able to use the pen and position the laptop in different positions.

Bang for buck though is that a good deal? Any way to get it cheaper? Cheers !
