Cheapest Coffees in Melbourne CBD 2018 Edition

Hi All;

Getting sick of paying $4.50 for decent coffee. Does anyone know where to get good coffee for around the $3 or lower mark. 7/11 Need not apply.

Thanks.

  • Does a sample at nespresso count?

For $1, what is wrong with 7/11 coffee? I have had worse for $4.50

Tried it, and it wasn't to my liking.

I love it… The price adds to the taste. McCafe do literally the worst coffee out there and seem to get away with a $4.50 price tag. I think if you are going ti rate 7/11 coffee you have to rate it against the other $1 alternatives, you cant say, I dont like 7/11 and I would rather buy Campos. Not an apples for apples comparison.

for starters, you have to make it yourself. how is that a bargain

Good idea to start this discussion OP. I am also keen on knowing this.

There is 1 cafe outside Southern Cross station on Collins St that sell small $2.50 latte's of decent quality.

    It's this one: http://www.perkup.com.au/

    • Used to be $2. Now they're price gouging…

  • I don't know if they are still doing it
Barista by Vue were doing $1 coffees BYO cup.

5 senses coffee, so its decent.

But happy to pay $4 for a decent coffee.

Are you flexible and mobile? Hey You promotes specials some cafes run each week and there are sometimes $2 ones and other pricing points.

    • I use Hey You on occasion but have never seen any discounts to coffees?

Coffee is a very subjective thing though; what one person likes, and thinks is a good price for the quality, another person will have an opposing view.
For example, someone this morning ordered a cappuccino with honey - they obviously like that but I couldn't personally think of anything more disgusting.

There are so many places, obviously, doing coffee in Melbourne; some are espresso machine based, with others doing single-origin specialty-grade pour-overs, etc.

  • Pretty flexible.
Just read that Barista by Vue only did the $1 coffee as part of it's opening special. But that is a good deal all the same…

  • We cycle this thread in the beginning of warmer seasons?

  • Is DIY an option? Like plunger or aeropress? Obviously doesn’t have the same taste as barista coffee, but definitely cheaper.
