    a doona is a padded blanket which doesnt require a cover.
    a quilt also known as a duvet require a cover.

    I was brought up calling it a doona. And yes, a doona required a cover.
    (i.e. www.harrisscarfe.com.au/Harris-Scarfe/Doona‎)

    My understanding is that a 'comforter' does not require a cover. i.e. what bashar is calling a doona
