Please Help Me Choose between 2013 Mitsubishi Lancer and 2009 Honda Accord

Please help me pick one out of these two and feel free to add your thoughts -

2013 Mitsubishi Lancer LX with 58,000km for $8200
Or
2009 Honda Accord Euro with 98,000km for $8000

Both of the cars have similar interiors with leather seats, parking sensors etc

Thanks in advance :)

The options were Lancer or Accord.

I think you replied to the wrong thread. Corolla and Camry were the big winners of the thread "What is the most boring cars on the road today?".

      • That's me :')

Lancer hands down from the two mentioned.

    Two different type of cars.
    lancer - small car
accord - mid size, expensive service and parts
    all depend on your purpose.

    • Just the every day use car, I wouldn't drive long distance heaps maybe couple of times a year

Then winner is lancer, if you have family + kids OR long distance drives then accord.

    • Very simple comparison.
The bottom like is that the Honda is much more expensive to service and repair, parts are much more expensive and so is the insurance.
So if OP is a typical OB such incidental costs will be a very important consideration

  • Lancer with low miles will be better to resell later, and the service/running costs are less as well. Also it is just 5 years old compared to the about to be 10 yr old accord.

Accord is a bit more expensive to run, plus handles like a boat.

Make sure the service history for both is good, call up the place it is being serviced to know more about the cars.

Last but not the least, if you dont look back at it once you have parked it, you bought the wrong on :P.

and if the cars are from scumtree and value for money, do a VIN check, there are lots of rebirth cars out there :)

Agreed with basically everything else, but:

Accord is a bit more expensive to run, plus handles like a boat.

Oi. Accord Euros, especially the CL9 OP is looking at, drive pretty damned well.

      • haha looks are subjective. But what i meant was what the OP considered better looking, not that the accord is bad looking.

And compared to Lancer, Accord does feel like a boat (weight/length difference and suspension setup being bit more soft)

        • Actually I take that back, the 09 model is the CU2…. which completely reverses my argument lol. IMO, the CU2 is much better looking than the Lancer (from a looks-imposing-and-more-powerful perspective), but it does handle and drive worse than the older Accord Euro model.

And okay, both probably drive a sight worse than the Lancer given they're much bigger cars.

I really really don't care for the look of the new(er) Lancers though - is that just me?

@HighAndDry: Gotta agree with that. Yeah new Lancer looks overworked from design perspective, cars arent that muscular these days- lots of cuts and overworked designs

Does the Lancer have an exhaust tip?

Tip: Always blow it out the rear

If all other factors are the same (which I doubt they are - inspect the cars carefully and have them looked over by a mechanic you trust), I'd go the Lancer despite my admiration for Honda engines and clutches (seriously - shift a gear in a Honda, it's magical).

But no, the Lancer being 4 years younger and with half the Kms? No-brainer, especially if they both meet your own requirements.

  • vtec > mivec

I will stay away from the Lancer if it is the CVT version.

    Honda > Mitsu

5 years ago I bought a used 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer VR-X 5spd manual with 58000km and since sold, and currently own a 2010 Honda Accord Euro Luxury auto with 101000km.

Lancer was more sporty and zippy/quicker off the line. Can hear a bit of road noise inside the cabin. I think it still looks OK, despite the shape being 10+ years old already. Good value for money.

Accord Euro luxury was nicer as a cruiser more relaxing, quieter cabin. Honda build quality was a bit better than the Mitsubishi. 2.4L engine a bit small for the body weight, so feels a bit sluggish off the line until you get rolling 40kph+.

All things considered, I'd take the 2013 Mitsubishi - 4 years newer, half mileage, better power-to-weight ratio, and better resale value.

  • I have a 2013 Mitsubishi Lancer LX, I would recommend it. No issues with car at all (apart from a terrible radio+speaker system which I've replaced).

  • Lancer every day of the week
