Home Alarm System for Elderly Parents

Hi

My elderly folks are getting NBN in couple months which means their back to base home alarm with Chubb no longer work.

Anyone recently look into the home alarm product space and know whats good out there?

I understand we now have new tech in the way of Google assit and Amazon Alexa stuff.

Should I be lookin for providers who can support google and Amazon tech?

What i was after:
1) home alarm with back to base monitoring

2) connects to a phone app to control and monitor (Android not iOS)

3) connects to outdoor cameras (sight of back gate)

4) connects to indoor cameras whilst they overseas I dont need to check house

5) works over 4g network and nbn wifi

They also in Perth metro and with Chubb currently.

Thanks

Most just go over 3g/4g now days. Wifi is less secure.

If you have no issues and still want to keep the current back to base alarm:

Have you asked Chubb if they have a solution to this?
I would expect them to offer/upgrade you to the GPRS/3G/4G transmitter (I think there's extra cost involved for equipment purchase).
Most alarm companies offer this technology when NBN was announced.
Otherwise they would all be out of business as soon as NBN is everywhere.

  • As others have said, the monitor company will replace with a cellular alternative for free if you tell them you will have to discontinue otherwise.

Monitoring is extremely profitable, they want to keep every customer.

    • Yer not my experience.

Call centre has NBN change section which is to get cellular add-on (assuming your system is upgradeable) with increased service fee to pay for new cellular service.

      • My experience was with shops, so happy to be proved wrong, but I would definitely call them and ask the question rather than just paying out of my own pocket.

  • Call Chubb and ask them what their NBN solution is.

They will have a retrofittable solution for an about $150 ish.

  • are your parents good with amazon/google personal assistant technology? If they are not then you should no be considering this sort of approach.
