  • Very nice price. It sometimes gets to around this with ebay 10+% off as well

  • This is my favourite game of the year.

Single player is fun as well.

    • Like, really though?
People actually play single player board games?

      • +4

Yeah, there are some great single-player Boardgames and card games.

The only difference between a single player strategy video game, and a board game, is just the draws and moving pieces are physically handled by you, rather than automatically run in the background.

      • Yeah, it's like a video game, except I handle the computer's job as well. I live a shitty drive away from most of my gaming friends, so it's not very often I can get a group together, but I still want to play. I can't justify purchasing games really any more unless they have a single player.

    Great price.

I love this board game so much that it's my first game where I've got it all tricked out with the metal coins and realistic resources.

    • I wanted the coins and resources, but given that I normally play it alone I couldn't justify it. I do have all the expansions and the big board though. Missed out on the big box.

  • For me red is OP

  • Thanks, been wanting to get it for a while.

  • Note there are some expansions for this, I'm looking for a deal on the Fenris one.

The digital edition is also very good if you are someone like me with no friends to play with or you dont enjoy setting up board games and dealing with calculating scores etc or forgetting to do actions each turn =P

  • Op shops have quite a few of these, usually barely used or even sealed. Picked up a Settlers of Catan recently from lifeline for $5, I saw this one unsealed but mint looking for $12, which I thought was a bit high so I passed. Maybe unwanted gifts, or people just cant find time to sit down to play them.

    • +1

Which city/area? Sounds like a deal of its own :)

      • +2

The Settlers of Catan I picked up from Lifeline in Acacia Ridge, Brisbane. That was a good find. The Scythe game was either at the Lifeline in Archerfield or the nearby Salvos superstore, cant remember which. I passed on it anyway.

Today I saw a recent Kickstarter game, Tao Long, opened but fairly mint condition, for $3.00. Also "Dark is the Night" - not exactly a great game, but simple and would make an okay gift for a kid to get them into board games. I bought it because they were only asking for $1. I try and regift most things.

Also junior meccano sets for $3, some of which were sealed. I think a Mr Toys somewhere must have been clearing out their junior Meccano sets.

Its like fishing, you either catch a brace of fish or you go home hungry.

Legit might drive over and try find that scythe for 12 bucks

          • @Cits: Would've been long gone by now. I check board games at op shops often. 99% are crap like Monopoly, trivial pursuit. The only time I saw something semi ok (Scotland yard) it was gone the next day.

            • @Omitsukasa: Yeah probably. I've never seen a good board game for sale in an op shop. Can't justify so much for a new one. Didn't realise scythe had a computer version will check that out.

            • @Omitsukasa: Yeah, about two-thirds of the time I find nothing. Its been pretty lean lately. I guess rich people arent tossing stuff like they were a couple of years ago.

As an avid op shopper of the gold coast area, i would completely disagree - have not found even a single designer board game (as in something that isn't monopoly/trouble/mousetrap/etc) in literally hundreds of visits to over 30 different op shops.

You must have been damn lucky to score those. I scored a copy of Hero Quest about 15 years ago for $2 in an op shop - that's the one and only time iv'e ever found a quality board game in a lifetime of op shopping and garage sales.

      • Its all about the catchment area, dude. You're probably not going to find much in the Gold Coast, I doubt most of the people living there have seen a designer board game in their life. You want to go where the yuppies and hipsters live, you know the people who pay $50 for Cards against Humanity, play it once with their airhead friends and then throw it out when its time to buy a house and move to the suburbs with their newly minted spouse.

        Here's where I go:-

Rocklea/Archerfield Lifeline and Salvos superstore. Pretty rough suburbs but Salisbury, Sunnybank etc are within the same catchment area so they get some relatively good stuff sometimes. Whoever's marking the prices in Lifeline though has been marking them too high lately.

RSPCA Shop sherwood. Good catchment area for clothes. Popular though, so good stuff gets taken up pretty quick.

Vinnies and Salvos in Newstead, and the RSPCA shop in Teneriffe. Good catchment areas. The vinnies on Ann St in the Valley has good stuff but they mark it up, too rich for my blood. Good books (most of my reading material comes from these shops).

Yes, lots of Monopolies, Mouse Traps, Troubles, Hungry Hungry Hippos etc (which I will still pick up if they are $2 or $3 and complete).

That Hero's Quest was a good find. Pat the NES Punk just found one for $10 and considered it his best find for a while.

Nice deal OP. It seems there a few hidden bargains on the Amazon US seller through AU store if you are a prime subscriber.
Eg. Pandemic legacy S2 yellow for $56 which seems pretty great deal also
    https://www.amazon.com.au/Fantasy-Flight-Games-Pandemic-Lega…

    • That's definitely a good deal if you can be bothered posting it.

  • +3

Lol this post has three different OP acronyms was kind of confusing to read

  • I think the deal is over?

Amazon US has it for approx $78 AUD, but if you try and ship it from there it asks you order from Amazon Australia - at $117.

EDIT: Nevermind, seems to work now! Choose Amazon US as the seller (right side of page), as per the mod note.

  • Looks more like a sickle than a scythe.

  • Thanks for the post! Not like I needed more big board games, but if it's a bargain…

  • After a lot of deliberation I pulled the trigger.

  • Scythe is a great game - fave faction is Rusviet or the one where you use combat cards as resources (forgot which one but it's yellow :)
I have reservations on Rise of Fenris expansion (not quite a Legacy, but feels like one) - after week 4 it's a little confusing

  • So those of you with a missus, does playing single player board games result in the same fury and lack of attraction that computer games cause? Asking for a friend.

  • $87.22 now, but 10% cash back with CR

  • Bought this deal,do not regret.. the group loved it. Only 1hr to explain rules but they weren't paying close attention

    • Good to know! I have no idea when it will get a chance to come out as I tend to build a backlog of games…
