Hey Guys,
I recently was in discussions with a company called "Solar Power Nation" in regards to getting a Solar System from them. During this process, and with alot of pushy sales tactics from them, I paid a very small deposit of just 100 dollars. This was with nothing signed and a verbal agreement (I actually recorded the conversation which is allowed under Victorian Law) that I could get my deposit back if for whatever reason i changed my mind. During the same day they advised that they cannot do the install in a certain timeframe that I requested (I planned to pay extra to get the install done sooner). At this point I advised them that I do not wish to go ahead with it and want my deposit back (All still with nothing signed). Its been almost 2 weeks & they keep saying they will email the form through for me to get my refund processed. But nothing. This is consistent with what I've read on the Internet with other people trying to get there deposit back.
I've now contacted my credit card company and they have sent me the paperwork to start the process of doing a Charge Back to my Credit card. Im just reaching out to Ozbargain members if this is the best cause of action to get my money back? Is there anything I should be aware of with the charge back process? Is there any other action I can take against Solar Power Nation? One only has to google them to look at the horrid reviews they have. Most of the Positive reviews are scipted & are obvious to pick as fakes. There are some that look genuine, but far and few between compared to the massive backlish of negative comments on there.. This is also consistent with reviews on Solarquotes.com.au for Solar Power Nation.
Some may be wondering why I actually recorded the conversation.. Easy. I knew this company already had a horrible track record of customer service, but, for people who were patient in the end they got a reasonable installation job of a solar system at an extremely cheap price. I thought it would be wise to record absolutely all conversations I had with them. After being through this it was utter stupidity to consider them..
Case in point.. a 6.6Kw system with Mono Perc 300 watt Solar panels & 10 year inverter warranty fully installed for only $3799. A friend of mine went through them and after more than 4 months of waiting he FINALLY got his system.. And he is quite happy with it. This is what motivated me to do the same.. I figured a slight money incentive for a fast track install would have rectified the lengthy wait time.
Out of my own interest I rang them pretending to be another potential customer.. They pushed for the deposit to be paid once again & also stated that the deposit was fully refundable when asked..
Phew what's the tl;dr?
The answer is yes just do a chargeback.
