Carrier Charges Introduced on Virgin Australia-Operated Flights

"Carrier Charges on Virgin Australia-Operated Flights"
"To cover ongoing associated costs of Velocity Reward Seats, a carrier charge will be introduced for bookings made on or after 1 January 2019, on all Virgin Australia operated flights; and Delta Air Lines operated and marketed flights between Sydney and Los Angeles. This is in line with local industry practice and Velocity still remains very competitive and well below the price charged by our competitors. The carrier charge can be paid with Points or a combination of Points and cash and will be applied during the booking process.
For the past six years, Velocity Frequent Flyer has been recognised for having the best redemption ability for Middle East/Asia Oceania. This change will still ensure Velocity has the most competitive domestic offering of any frequent flyer program in Australia. "

Yeah bad news, worth posting complaint on velocity social mediaetc. Eg premium economy to lax for a family of 4 now costs almost $600 more on points, and it’s hard to tell but I think that’s one way.

Yup sucks…. I think i might move my points to KrisFlyers before the conversion rate hike comes into place.

    • Considering the same. Only thing holding me back is the mandatory 3 year expiry on Krisflyer points from the time you earn (or in this case, transfer) them.

Also the devaluation of Velocity to Krisflyer is a pain in the ass. They're definitely just trying to pull the bandaid off with the successive bad news.

      • Suppose you could fix that by moving the minimum points from amex to kf

KF doesn't work like QFF and Velocity where if you earn any number of points in a certain period, that keeps your entire balance rolling over. All KF points have an expiry of 3 years starting from when you earn them, regardless if you earn more points in the future.

  • Hopefully this means an increase in availability. Trying to find rewards availability to LA is notoriously difficult.

So disappointing to hear this on top of the devaluation of points when redeeming on Krisflyer.
