Spilt System Air Con Question

Hey guys,

I'm looking at replacing an existing reverse split system, current unit is a Conia brand, probably around 15yrs old and is 6kW size..

I am looking at a couple of options 6kW v 7.1kW size..

1) Panansonic Z60TKR 6kW
2) Haier AS71TE1HRA 7.1kW

I can get either at a similar price, I am very familiar with Panasonic however have no experience with Haier.. Both come with 5yr warranty.

I am better off sticking with Panasonic or is the largest size Haier worth it?

Cheers

Was the 6kW sufficient for your needs?
Will the increased electrical cost be worth a more powerful system?

    • Yeah the 6kW is sufficient for the area, I just had the belief that a larger unit will work "less harder" to cool/heat the room therefore more efficient?

      Appreciate your input :)

    • Will the increased electrical cost be worth a more powerful system?

I'm almost 99% sure that's not how the power consumption figures work. The power rating is its max rating, and if you don't turn it to max, it won't run at that figure. Also - most electronics are more efficient at quite a bit below 100% (usually around 60-70%? Not an EE), so OP's view that a system with a higher max rating will be more efficient at lower use cases should be accurate, unless they'll be running it at about 20% or 30% most of the time.

    • It's highly unlikely you'll ever recoup the cost of the new unit on electricity savings. Spend the money on solar or an efficient hot water service.

Did u try Diakin? Manufactured locally and no issue of spares !

    • Really? Which Daikin model is manufactured locally?

Even I thought Daikin like many other Air-conditioning brands was also made in Thailand/Malaysia/China, etc. with it's origins in Japan. But CheapSticks is talking about "Diakin"

        • easy boys - be nice.

They have been manufacturing here for awhile and have increased the local content over years.

    • Do you mean actron?

    • Do you mean Daikon? The white radish?

  • I would not look at anything that's not Daikin or Mitsubishi Heavy Industries.
