Swifts are great little cars. Barinas are terrible though.
Swift or Corolla for bulletproof reliability (source - I've sold both and have very rarely seen customers have issues with either.). Very strong resale on both

Corolla in manual. Family beater car is 200k and going stronk after some serious abuse (like towing 1.5 tonnes uphill), boat launches in salt water, a whole lot of food/drinks spillage onto centre console area…

I would buy a model which is known for reliability - Corolla, Mazda 3, Yaris, Mazda 2, possibly an i30 depending on the age and condition. I would actively avoid Barinas - I don't think Holdens are very reliable. Swifts - I am not sure about so I would avoid these too.
