I have been using this since the last deal. Quite reliable, no issues so far.

    • -2

If no issues so far would you not describe it as very reliable?

Quite reliable to me implies you have had at least one minor issue.

      • +2

        Ok. very reliable then

Sorry a noob here, just wanted to check, does this overlay the wifi network?
e.g. if i use wifi on my mobile, I can just access the American sites like Hulu as long as my wifi is set to US.

Or do i need to install the app on the phone so it re-routes the phone?

    Thanks

You either need to manually configure the VPN on your phone (which I'm guessing you aren't able to do) or download the app.

    • If your wifi router has DD-WRT or some other similar router firmware that supports the OpenVPN client protocols, you can connect to this VPN service using that.

So if you configure it right (with your routers openvpn client and a static route) all your Wifi traffic will go via the VPN.

From 'System Requirements' on the stack social page:

      System Requirements

Windows (NOT compatible with Windows mobile)
      Mac OS X
      Android
      iOS
      Linux
      DD-WRT
      Tomato USB
Please check that your device supports OpenVPN before buying

  • So…why is it 94% off?

    Edit: well there's some irony.

  • Does this VPN work with great wall of China? Need a backup VPN for my trips to China next year. Already got the NordVPN which works flawlessly but it doesn't hurt to have more options.

    • No, you should look into hosting a VPS(for a month) and using shadowsocks or google outline(Just fork of shadowsock with bit better interface and setup).

This method works pretty well with pretty much no speed decrease (10% decrease).

edit: this also depend where you going and what type of connection. Usually home connection won't allow you access any OPENVPN servers or it just throttle like hell but places like Hotel might not have this issue.

      • Just checked the official site and it states this product works with China great fire wall.

        • Yeah, but require you setup the vps. You also can check stunnel + OpenVPN which also works but setup is more complex than shadowsock imo.

    • NordVPN is currently 75% off for a 3 year subscription.

      https://join.nordvpn.com/order/?_ga=2.7649394.1112583300.154…

      Ends in 8 hours though.

  • Will this work seamlessly on iOS?

    • VPN on iOS is a bit shonky in general. The icon appears and disappears, connection drops for no known reason. According to PIA the default iOS VPN protocol isn’t even encrypted. Considering Apple is big on privacy it’s all a bit disappointing.

      • Never hear that before. Any links to support this?

Icon disappearing usually reflects an unreliable VPN provider/connection rather than an underlying issue with the OS.

  • I bought this a couple of years ago. I use it on and off, no issues so far.
I just use it for privacy though.
What are the benefits of having a VPN that puts your IP in another country? What can I get that I can't get here?

    • Geo-restricted content, eg. access BBC iPlayer by using a UK VPN exit, the reverse is also true, access Australian content while you're overseas by using an AU VPN exit.

P2P file transfers of "cough Linux distros cough" through a VPN exit in a country that is P2P friendly, (eg. NL, CA).

      • thank you. but what is the benefit of such services? what can Hulu give me? or BBC iPlayer? free tv series?

        • +1

Series, documentaries, movies, sport, etc, etc.

Whether or not anything is of interest to you, only you can answer that.

  • Beware - I’ve not used this site before so I have no first hand knowledge but lots of bad reviews -

    • On another note - I have used VPN secure before and found it a reliable VPN service. I used to pay $10pm so the lifetime sub price seems too good to be true

I've bought from stacksocial in the past and very happy. People need to read the terms and conditions and pretty much install or activate straight away.

      • Same. I've bought from them several times including VPN services, all good. You do need to read the T&Cs not just for activation as often they'll have e.g. 'lifetime' service deal which is actually limited (I bought Getflix lifetime = 30 years & Pure VPN lifetime = 5 years then supposedly renew another 5 years at no extra cost).

  • I bought a similar lifetime deal for GetFlix smart dns / vpn on stack social a few years ago. Although it 'works' and I'm mostly happy with it, just be aware that a lot of the providers on Stack Social have a seperate tier for lifetime subscriptions, in that you may get a different level of subscription when compared to monthly subscribers.. Ie: not as many servers available to connect to, throttled bandwidth etc.

Having said that, considering the price it's mostly still a good deal.

  • hmmmm… do i need this

  • Based in Australia.. no thanks

Turnbull had a laugh when he saw your hotmail password.

  • Five Eyes Alliance member - No thanks.

  • Would not trust this VPN
