  • So not suitable for food? :)

    • +2

Hi @SkyeLim - well, they're not specifically marketed for kitchen use… we are The Office (not Kitchen) Shoppe after all. :-)

Though, being a titanium coated/bonded stainless steel scissor, they are highly resistant to corrosion and wear. Titanium coated kitchenware (including scissors/shears) is common nowadays, as the element is non-toxic, resistant to acid degradation, does not impart/affect odor or taste (like stainless steel), and is non-reactive in humans.

That's why they make hip replacements out of the stuff!

But… not being familiar with food safety standards and whatnot I can't exactly go so far as to recommend them for use with food. I'd prefer to steer clear of the ambulance-chaser's! 8-P

If you're in Melbourne the scissors can be had cheaper any ol' day of the week.

All I need now is a pair of scissors to open it!

    • @Ryanek's mum yells - "Don't use your teeth!" ;-)

That is quite the causality dilemma @Ryanek… OzBargain "philosophía" - who'da thunk it! :-D

    • arghhh. Tell me about it. We bought ourselves some croissants, as travellers, when heading on holiday. Decided to drop into a supermarket to buy a knife to cut the croissants with and the knife had cable ties to stop it being drawn from the packaging. Fortunately the IGA had an area where they had some store scissors so we sauntered over there and used their scissors to get access to the knife.

Then at the airport it was taken off of you citing security reasons, then at meal time you get a metal knife.

        • We were driving, so this has now become the car knife so we are prepared for next time. The sheath is really useful, and we have wrapped it in a bag to be doubly safe, but we were beginning to develop an "old women who swallowed a fly" complex.

          • @try2bhelpful: I don't even know why she did that. Perhaps…she'll die?

  • I thought this would be a silly gimmick, so I looked up the hardness of both titanium and stainless steel grades and titanium is actually multiple times as hard. So on that basis, I'd have to agree that it likely makes for better scissors.

There could be potential for galvanic corrosion, but I'm certainly no expert in that field.

How thick is the titanium coating?

    • Marketing hype, pure and simple.

Good thoughts and fair questions @spludgey!

I'm far from a Metallurgy PhD myself :-D… but Ti is indeeed harder. And in short, Ti/SS are fairly "similar" metals (in the sense of the Anodic Index) and therefore are galvanically compatible in most ordinary environments.

Also the more noble Ti anode, coating the less noble SS cathode base through the bonding process, means less exposure to possible electrolyte's (i.e. water) and are thus even less likely to experience galvanic corrosion.

Which is to say, in the real world, just keep 'em dry and away from hot, humid, salty environments and they should stay corrosion free for a VERY long time!

e.g. I've (admittedly :-P ) often times been abusing a pair of the 230mm Titanium Scissors cutting "wet stuff" for about 6 years now and they are still corrosion free (including under the hinge) and sharp as ever!

As to how thick the coating is, I honestly don't know and unfortunately couldn't find any mention of it. If I do find an answer, I'll update my reply.

  • Good quality scissors , Bought this one last year , using it commercially to cut thin dry/wet plastic and so far no signs rust . Time to buy again as it’s getting less sharp now .

  • Hi rep, I just purchased 2 of the scissors, but the total came up to $16.50 instead of $15.80. Is this correct? My order is #1951.

    • Hi @Sleepycat3 - no probs, we'll refund the difference.

General FYI - The trick is to select from the Quantity variable drop-down menu first.

  • Hi rep just wondering if possible for a deal on these bad bois

    https://www.theofficeshoppe.com.au/product/osmer-titanium-23…

    • Hi @BenTheBargainer2013 - I hate to disappoint, but we just don't have the stock to do a deal on the 230's right now.

I'll see if we can get more (at the right price) for a future deal.
