The better option is to tell her you want to get her the new iPad Pro when it's announced later this month (probably) rather than buy the one that is about to be superseded.
The new Ipads are about to drop any day now. Given she already knows you forgot I would give her an IOU on a brand new one when they are released. The new ones should have a bigger display for the real estate as, the rumour is, they are going to get rid of the home button.
