Finally going to build a new PC, after 7 years, with the most intensive tasks that I'll do being photo and some video editing. No gaming.
I don't plan to overclock or anything like that, don't even know what that means!
I would like it to be quite quiet as well if possible, which hopefully my new Fractal Design Define R5 will help with from the recent PCCG sale.
I'm planning to buy these parts over the next couple of months, when they go on sale, eBay Computer Alliance, PCCG, Scorptec, Umart etc… whatever will be cheapest.
No particular budget, happy to go up or down if needed, just want to get good value for around the price I'm building.
Any advice/suggestions is welcome!
Firstly, I already have a Dell U2718Q from this deal. I would like a dual monitor set-up, so I'm highly tempted to purchase another for $620 in the current Dell eBay sales, or would you suggest just the U2715H? Do you think it'll be strange to have the different resolutions next to each other?
Will I need anything special in my build for the two monitors?
I really don't know much about PC parts, so any help would be appreciated. I'm basing it off the Whirlpool wiki $1,250 build.
CPU: AMD Ryzen 2600 $235
Mobo: ?ASUS $139 or ?MSI $155 Any other suggestions? Can I go more simple with my needs?
RAM: Ripjaws? - Confusing to me, no idea what to get for my situation and compatibility.
SSD: Samsung 970 EVO 500gb $210-ish
HDD: Will reuse current storage HDDs (Samsung Spinpoints, WD Ecogreens) 5TB in total, for now
GPU: 2GB Geforce GTX 1050 $179? So I just get a basic GPU for photo and video editing?
Case: Define R5
PSU: Seasonic Focus Gold 450w $99 Is this enough? Why such a low wattage?
Is there something missing/incompatible that's really obvious? What would you do to help this build?
Looks good.
Cursory inspection I can only see two differences with those motherboards: 1 vs 2 M.2 slots and a Displayport er port which I'm assuming is only used with Ryzen APUs. So really it's one m.2 slot for the additional coin, not worth it IMO, unless you know you need two m.2 slots (you can buy PCIe addin cards if it's ever an issue in any case).
If GT 1030 GPU is cheaper than GTX 1050 Ti then it might be better (it has less 3D gaming capability).
I did pause on the PSU possibly low wattage but if it's on the Whirlpool guides it should be bulletproof.
