  • When I click on the referral link it only shows $20 bonus?

      Hey Nix1016,

We haven't updated the website yet but if you read the terms and conditions, you can see that it says $40 :)

Please let me know if you have any other questions!

      Thanks,
      Abi

      • Any limits to how many people we can refer? Would love to refer my whole family with that much of a bonus!

        • Hey nurries,

There is no limit to the amount of friends you can refer.

          Thanks,
          Abi

        • Don't forget that the referrals need to have an account with different bank accounts to the one that you used. So if you have an individual referring their partner, you can't use the joint account for the person being referred. At least that's how a read the T&Cs.

      • How do I close my account?

I'm gonna wait until I can invest in NCC-1701E

  • Any idea of historical performance of this mob?

    • +1

I am most deeply worried about Tesla and Facebook being included in their "picks". Some of the giant bubble stocks which currently have little to no upside momentum in light of fed raising interest rates and the trade war.

The other is just a basic Australian Index. You would get better returns focusing on certain stocks and not introducing market risk into your investments, i.e. uncorrelated to the market.

At times I think it might be better to create your own IB account and delve into international stocks by yourself. Highly recommended for the lowest cost solution.

I think the performance will be undoubtably be sub-par if you look at the performance of their picks. Most likely they have seen an outflow of funds and are now looking to top that up from other investors.

Then again their picks might not be the only stocks that are in that portfolio.. Who knows, remember they got fined for saying they pick the stocks but ~80% was actually an index. So, if it was only 20%, I would still want to look at which index they are invested in though on the side. (again, very little to no disclosure from what I can see).

To be honest, to provide such low fees, I would think over 90% of the portfolio is some default aussie index which isn't even worth investing in. After all, they are using IB… If they have to regularly change their portfolio of international stocks, boom, that's going to leave them bleeding cash.

      Pass.

      • While I have agreed with your comments about VPNs, I'm 100% with you on this one!

        • +1

Which comments avout VPNs? I'm curious as to why they are a waste

          • @elli0t: I don't think they're a waste. Look his profile up, he made a post about vpns years ago iirc.

        • +1

Well, we find more possible disturbances and conflict of interest (how they allow for low fees) in similar firms.

While selling orders to HFT firms is not illegal, it has been widely criticized by regulators, and consumer advocacy groups, who allege the activity is not in the best interest for main street.

It is very likely the same business model is being deployed by Spaceship

          https://www.zerohedge.com/news/2018-10-16/robinhood-said-get…

Which probably explains why it is free to transact… HFT can skim and profit from the orders of Spaceship Voyager.

I wouldn't have even thought about it until someone raised it. I almost glossed over it as I rarely frequently zerohedge these days.

The other is just a basic Australian Index. You would get better returns focusing on certain stocks and not introducing market risk into your investments, i.e. uncorrelated to the market.

There is a large subset of investment advisors that say exactly the opposote of this, which is that you should not be trying to "beat the market" and should be investing in something like Vanguard etc. Their opinion is that trying to bet on stocks is akin to gambling at the race track and that most professional investors do worse than index/top 200 funds.

At times I think it might be better to create your own IB account and delve into international stocks by yourself. Highly recommended for the lowest cost solution.

If it's true that professional investors struggle with this the argumemt is you may as well take your money to the track.

  • @AbiFromSpaceship, there was few referrals made by me but I didn't see the credits in my account. Can you please let me know how long it will take to see in my account. Thanks mate

    • Hey oyozzieoy,

I would recommend getting in contact with our support team via the app and they can check on the status of any referrals for you :)

      Thanks,
      Abi

        Thanks mate,
I have just chatted with your support team, they are asking for the email addresses of the guys who joined using my link.

You guys clearly know who ever gets referred from ozbargain, no one will have a clue who signed up and joined, there are around 15 hits on my referral link, but I haven't seen any one credit applied to my account as a referrer.

        Hi,
I've had a look at your account and I cannot see a referral bonuses attached to it. If you could provide your friend's email address who referred you I can manually add a referral bonus to your account.
Don't worry, both you and your friends will still get the $20 investment bonus as long as you both have at least $5 invested in your Spaceship Voyager accounts.
Please note: it can take a few days for your account to reflect your referral bonus as we wait for your first investment to clear prior to issuing you $20 worth of units.
Please let me know if you have any other questions!
        Thanks,

        • Hey oyozzieoy,

The support team will only ask for the email addresses your friend has used during the sign up process if we can't see any successful referrals attached to your account.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

          Thanks,
          Abi

          • +3

@AbiFromSpaceship: I have signed up on someone's link here and waited for few months to get it credited, until I have followed up you guys you have never applied the credit.

Not sure the guy who referred me got the amount, but clearly there is something to suss(as what i see) as you guys just using these platforms to promote/market your stuff, but highly doubt that you guys are honoring any referrer credits.

As an account holder there is no visibility who used my referral's and also not sure your back-end systems captures any of this info. or you guys may be ignoring to honor any referrer credits.

—please vote for me, to see who are in the same situation as me
—please comment, if any one of you as referrer got the amounts credited without providing the referee information

            • +3

@oyozzieoy: I've received 2 * $20 referrals in the last few months and my link is only here as I do not have friends. I'm not sure how to check on how many times it's been clicked on mobile.

            • @oyozzieoy: Same experience here, you literally have to contact support to get your credits, otherwise they will not appear in your account.

            • +2

@oyozzieoy: I also signed up from a link here a couple of months ago and no sign of the referral credit. Have no details to pass on as I used a random referral link on ozbargain.

Edit: I've also contacted support and as above was advised I'll need to provide referers email address. Since I used a link here I can't, so no referral credit for me. :( For a FinTech company, failures like this are worrying - a working referral system should be a doddle.

              • @sloshie: Messaged support again and they've sorted it out. Props to the support team.

            • @oyozzieoy: I know when I signed up from referral the link took me to the App Store, not the app. I have had to manually follow up. Maybe it works on android? Can you do it on PC?

    • In my experience referral credits have taken about 4-5 business days to show up.

  • +3

Signed up but no information of being referred. Try adding the referral code (from URL) to the promotions tab but it doesn't work.

    • Same, I tried to click on the link and it just tries to open itunes which I don't use. I downloaded the App and tried to sign up manually but it doesn't ask for a referral code?

      • Hey nix1016,

You need to open up the link on your mobile device.

If you talk to our support team via the app they'll be able to manually credit your account if you have the link you used to sign up with.

        Thanks,
        Abi

        • +4

          Terrible system you have there.

I noticed similar issues but decided to pull out due to the catastrophic use of adjust.com

          • @[Deactivated]: Hey VPNWasteOfCash,

Sorry to hear that. We're always working hard to make the process better.

If you have any feedback, let me know and I can pass it onto the team.

            Thanks,
            Abi

    • Hey Gorillainwild,

You track referrals when you click the "Start investing" button on the referral page on your phone.

Best to contact support via the app if you think that something has gone wrong.

Please note: at the moment there is no information for a referral at the moment, but you should see your balance updated the day after your first investment clears (as long as you and the person who referred you have at least $5 invested in Spaceship Voyager).

      Thanks,
      Abi

I've been using these guys since May, easy and good way to just have some money in the market, agreed re most businesses being high growth and could be high risk in the short term. They do seem to go tech heavy in the portfolio.

Nonetheless, 25,000 users is solid, even at an average balance of $100, I'd say they are doing ok!

  • Can someone please explain how this works. I'm sorry, but I have no idea.

  • @abifromspaceship
Do the new people we refer get the double promo referral if they refer friends?

  • How do I keep track of how much 1 unit costs in AUD?

  • +1

Can anybody please confirm if they have ever received the referral bonus using the Ozbargain random method, either as the referrer or referee? I used the system random click option back when it was $20 and didn't get anything.

    • Spaceship's referral program appears to be broken. The link has no way of tracking to an app install. Entering the code manually doesn't accept it either. I think at the moment you'll have to sign up and then contact support to fix it up.

I've switched the system from links to PM so you can give Spaceship Voyager the details of the code and email of person referred.

      • +2

Can anyone confirm manually emailing support has resulted in them getting their referral. Am Kinda turned off from signing up with app and going through the process with all the negative feedback.

      • Ok, I have my code in there, so if someone clicks to get a code, one of us who gave a code will get a PM asking for our code?

        • Yes. It just selects a person at random to PM.

    • +1

I have had two referrals in the last few months from here but did not get my initial sign up referral at all.

      • Interesting, there's hope yet! Pity about missing out on the initial sign up.

        • Well, even more interesting is OzBargain has expired my link right when there is a surge of referral usage!

Two referrals materialised from 8 clicks in that time.

    • I gave up and used a code. I did get my $20, someone else missed out on theirs.

  • +1

damn, this is nothing related to Voyager 1 and Voyager 2!

    • I thought it was a reference to Star Trek Voyager

  • +1

I have no idea how these guys make money. No account maintenance fees under 5k, no buy or sell fees, offer a standard $20pp referral (now $40 with this deal). I would love to know where they make their money!

    • they have a super fund with over 200 million with 1% fee p.a
so they are using business capital from the venture for spaceship voyager. they also have there own p.e license so they can buy the shares direct and not use a ETF.

I'm sure when they get to the amount of users they want. they will remove referral.

also as long as there super fund grows they can use it as an offset.

  • Currently trying to get Peter Foster on the board.

  • I received 4 referral credits at $20 each in the last 2 weeks and I am certainly NOT associated with my company.

  • +1

No fund can consistently beat the market. Asset allocation and fee reduction are about the best you can do long term.

    https://www.investopedia.com/ask/answers/12/beating-the-mark…

You certainly shouldn't be choosing investments based on referral credit.

And as VPNWasteOfTime said, there's a huge sector bias in this portfolio (US tech).

Imo, sign up for SelfWealth (with an OzBargain referral code) and buy an index fund ETF, or pick a few stocks manually (with no more than 10% of your wealth).

Invest in "The little book of common sense investing" by Jack Bogel before buying into something like this.

    When is withdrawal allowed?

    Spend 5 get 40 sounds good 😜

    • +1

I would like to know too.
I am afraid that those $40 just stay "invested" in your account and you can't really withdraw them.

      • If that is the case I'll close my account straight away.

      • You can definitely withdraw it afterwards. I had a $20 referral bonus previously that I withdrew as a test.

  • +1

i highly suggest you research these guys before you think about using them. I was going to use them but after some research online i decided to stay away.

    • +2

Care to expand on why you decided to stay away?

  • whats the difference between this and acorns?

    • +1

If I'm correct Acorns is about rounding up your purchases and investing the difference. This is more a regular periodic transfer. I do $20 a week.

However, one thing I do NOT like about this is the mobile app. It's hard to get any real details of your holdings, and I'm pretty sure I saw a post on Whirlpool that said for detailed information you had to email their support staff.

  • I am not sure if I trust this company to give my money to, let alone referring my friends.

    • Hmm,strange you make an account just to post this comment

  • Is this some kind of joke

  • +1

Referral worked and all that, deposit times seem way too long, money left my account Friday and only yesterday was it 'cleared' in spaceship. Also clicking the withdraw button doesn't seem to do anything, it tells me withdraw successful, my balance doesn't change and I can 'withdraw' again but nothing happens.

  • +1

I was able to withdraw the bonus as soon as the funds were verified (about a week after deposit) and appeared in my bank account a day later.

    • +1

Good to know, there seem to be a lot of people very concerned about how well their $5 is going to perform. 800% interest rate seems reasonable even though I've had to email support about getting the $40 several times. I was at a loss, but up 43c at the moment (ignoring referral bonus). They offered me a t-shirt (free from my understanding, will see when they get back to me) as well. So overall even though it's been a bit of an uphill battle, it's a bit of fun. I might leave mine a bit longer and see what happens.
