Home Made Vanilla Malt Thick Shake (Domino's Inspired)

So am in love with milk shakes and thick shakes and honestly the Domino's ones are not bad they taste pretty good almost perfect flavour for me not bland and not too sweet.

Anyone know how to make a killer thick shake / milk shake vanilla malt flavoured?

I do like them a little bit thick and not just straight up milk but not sure what ingredients work best or to use.

Quick look at coles and woolworths show a lot of options from essences to syrups to powders to extracts.

So I know it requires milk, ice cream and maybe a little tiny bit of sugar and either microwave a bit or put it in a blender but what other stuff do you put to use for a simple tasty vanilla malt thick shake.

Have tried the aldi ones before, they were OK but not quite right.

Anyone got any good recommendations on which brand or product to use and as always bonus points for ozbargain method or choice of product but taste is very important here so willing to spend on quality.

I am thinking maybe milk and some of the cheapest vanilla ice cream for starters maybe add some whip cream but then I get stuck on the other parts.

TL;DR how to replicate the Domino's vanilla malt thick shake.. Taste wise flavour wise consistency wise

    I thought the recipe was:
    - Icecream (the quantity will determine the thickness)
    - Flavour (could be icecream topping, or milo, etc)
    - Milk
    - Blend it together
    - Drink with a (paper or metal) straw

I certainly would not add sugar.

The best I've ever had was in Jakarta: avacado, chocolate flavour, condensed milk, milk

maybe a little tiny bit of sugar

Will need the equivalent of around 20 teaspoons of sugar.

Which you will get from the ice cream, milk and flavouring.

    • There's about 13g of sugar in a cup of plain milk - lactose.

I recommend Blue Ribbon Ice Cream and Nestle Malted Milk Powder. The Vanilla is up to you and how much you want to spend, but all Queens brand products are decent. They have every level of vanilla goodness, from imitation to concentrated bean paste.

Basic recipe for a malted milkshake:

    1 whopping scoop of icecream
    1 cup of milk
    1 tbsp malt powder
    1 tsp vanilla essence

    Blend

Add extra icecream til it is as thick as you want it for thickshake. Add more or less of each ingredient to taste. Swoosh some caramel topping around the outside of a glass for extra sugar content and fanciness.

I second this, with the addition Scotch Finger biscuits. Crush up a biscuit and top the thickshake with the crumbs then stir through. Add more on the top as well for some crunchiness.

You can buy actual cans of malt at Woolies, goes really nicely with ice cream and also in things like Anzac biscuits

I find malted milk powder is easier to handle than the sticky malt extract: https://shop.coles.com.au/a/a-nsw-metro-alexandria/product/c…

And if you like it sweeter, don't try adding sugar, just use a vanilla syrup instead of the vanilla essence: https://shop.coles.com.au/a/a-nsw-metro-alexandria/product/c…

  • Blend some malteasers (prefer dark chocolate ones, can't find them anymore for some reason), once they're a fine powder add ice cream and some vanilla flavoring, top off with milk. If you're out of milk, substitute Bailey's.

No idea how it compares to Domino's taste-wise.
