Looking for an 2 BR Accomodation In Melbourne

Hi Folks,

Bit of an update. My secondment in Melbourne from Tassie has made me interested to live in this beautiful city. We came here 5 months ago and have been sick of living in Southbank high rise (thankfully lease coming to an end in Oct 2018).

Interested to know our options for renting (a ground floor thing :)) with following concerns:

  1. Near to primary school (public preferred)
  2. Near to some sort of play area/park where kids can play
  3. Near to public transport (wife and myself working in CBD, near to Southern Cross train station)
  4. Something on ground (no high rise and concrete jungle which we have seen enough in last 6 months)
  5. Rent around $400-$500 pw in a safe/ish area

I was thinking South Yarra, St Kilda and am keen to know what other options should I consider?

Regards

Varun

We live in Fitzroy and have for the last 25 years. Close to the city lots of parks close by. Can't comment on Primary schools. Regular trams and you can walk into the city if you want to. You will need to check out prices.

    Great restaurant options.

    Love living in Melbourne.

      Ever witnessed any gangland murders?

      • Never had a problem in my time here. There are so many people going out to restaurants it is a good place to go wandering on a warm evening as well.

The gangland thing is so overblown by right wing shock jocks, and their lack of intelligence followers just lap it up.

  • Footscray /close thread

    • Just don't end up on the wrong side! lol

You mean there's a right side?

        • The side you're less likely to get stabbed is the right side!

  • Everyone's going to tell you that their area is good. Otherwise they would've moved out already!

How many kids have you got? If you want convenience, nothing beats CBD (which would then be apartments). If you live outside, factor in an extra $80/week or so for travel costs between yourself and your wife.

i see you live in CBD then

      • Best place to live if you don't have grown up kids! :p

        • how much is your strata fees pa ?

          • @dcep: Convenience does come at a price. Although OP is talking about renting, so strata is included in the weekly rent amount.

Albert Park has a great school and is super close to the city, you could walk it but riding would be quicker and there are also trams. South Melbourne market right nearby too. It’s a great spot. (And I love nowhere near it)

Have a google for school zone maps to make sure you pick a house in the right zone, regardless of which suburb you end up looking at.

    • Great didn't explore that yet. Will check Albert Park area.

    You should move to NSW.

    NSW is the premier state.

      …run by Alan Jones.

      • No Baysews allowed in NSW.

North Melbourne is great. Great primary school and your wife can walk to work in under 30 mins & save ~$50/week on myki. Close to queen Victoria market (cheap fruit and veg) and lots of amenity
