Just Bought an Xbox One X from EB. What Are The "Best" Games to Show off Its Power?

I got an Xbox One X from EB. Traded in old Xbox One 500gb model ($110 before EB world benefits) as well as Minecraft Xbox One Edition and Diablo 3 (PS4) (Both had $12 trade value before benefits) and instantly traded in Assassin's Creed (surprisingly $57 trade value which I found decent enough to not bother with selling online) which brought the bundle down to $435.80.

Will probably end up selling both the digital Forza codes as much as I would like to play them as their download sizes are too ridiculous for the internet that I have access to.

I've been mostly a Switch and Nintendo enthusiast lately so I haven't kept up with all the latest Xbox news, but with this new machine and 4K TV from Aldi this Saturday (if specs are good enough) I'm looking for the best eye candy to test both out.

What do people suggest?

(Side note: I've had an Xbox One since 2015 and quite a substantial library of games in my backlog due to finding bargains over the years as well as a fair few 360 BC games both physically and through Games with Gold on the few occasions I've found cheap memberships)

Edit: turns out I was overcharged $50 for my console. Contacted EB and they gladly fixed it up for me. Actual price paid for the bundle now $385.80 I believe.

    Forza Horizon 4
    Gears of War 4
    The Witcher 3

    Just to name a few…

    • Unfortunately I don't have 2 of those, but how does the X benefit Forza Horizon 3 if at all?

Native 4k (or downsampling from 4k to 1080p) + HDR. It looks fantastic. Be sure to check out older enhanced games like Red Dead Redemption 1 too as the massive increase in resolution, locked frame rate, locked v-sync, 16x anisotropic filtering makes them look fantastic.

iirc it runs at 4K60FPS on XBX

      • Horizon 3 & 4 both look amazing on it, especially on a 4K tv. Must haves if you like racing games. Playing it right now ;)

I assume the Xbox One Enhanced games with HDR would look good.

  • Buy EA access and play the latest sports games

  • Definitely Forza Horizon 4. Apparently shadow of tomb raider looks great on the X too. Reckon Quantum Break should be good too.

Don’t know the specs of the Aldi tv but you’d want to be sure it supports HDR. I had a previous Samsung series 7 from 2014 that suppOrts UHD but had no HDR then. The difference was good but with a 4K+HDR tv now, it is helluva lot better! So much so I am going back to install games I had previously finished to see he difference with HDR enabled.

Red Dead Redemption enhanced on the X looks great too as someone mentioned.

This is the TV I'm looking at. States HDR but may only (most likely will) be basic. I'm just hoping that it's 60hz or it's a deal breaker unfortunately.

But yeah I've heard HDR makes things look better than just 4k but unfortunately not a lot of people I know have 4k TVs so my only real reference point are the demo models they have on display at JB hi Fi or Big W which I understand probably won't be very reflective of the Aldi brand

      • kogan is having a sale right now for cheap 4k HDR tv's too.

        • Sold out when I last checked

    • Probably most important to note that it needs to be HDR-10 bit. Lots of TVs state supports HDR but don't have great/proper implementation

    • Damn was hoping someone would say HDR not a huge difference at 4K - I have the JU7000 with no HDR. Shouldve gotten then the 8000 when had the chance. Now need tempted to upgrade just for video games :(. Maybe when OLEDs get cheaper or can find a good deal on a 65inch.

Check the menu for download 4k HDR content for games you already have that way you can screen grab a before and after.
Forza Horizon 3 you mentioned has the download 4k UHD content

Get Xbox game pass and try a whole bunch?

Start with FH4 and then work down from there

  • Rainbow 6 siege runs at 60 fps on xbox one x

  • It's not a PC, so not much to show off, but I'm guessing the people you're showing off to will be console gamers so that will be a non-issue. I'd definitely say Assassin's Creed Odyssey but it's brand new and costs a bomb, Mass Effect Andromeda is another suggestion.

    • I put in another vote for AC: Odyssey. Game looks amazing.

      • I traded that in with console purchase to get the console cheaper unfortunately.

Figured I'd be able to get it for $20 some time next year if it's anything like every other Assassin's Creed game

  • In the xbox dashboard, when you list your games, there is a "enhanced" filter which will allow you to see which games in your library will benefit in being played on the X.

Will probably end up selling both the digital Forza codes as much as I would like to play them as their download sizes are too ridiculous for the internet that I have access to.

You'll be in for a rude surprise, all X enhanced games have their own packaged files(total is larger than the standard base game) and so will need to be redownloaded for you to see the benefits of the xbox one X.

    • Wait
So all enhanced games basically install the whole game a second time?

      • Yep, and they are larger than the original.

  • I play division a lot and that looks awesome now in 4k. Also Forza games.

  • Pretty unfortunate some of the best games to take advantage of the 4K gaming would be PS4 exclusives.

The tomb raider games'd probably look pretty good.

Absolutely any Forza games if you have them.

Edit: I know what you mean with download sizes…

Shame the PS4 Pro doesn't even reach 4k in most enhanced games. Uncharted 4 would be amazing in Native 4K

      • Definitely.

Would be awesome to see games like that on the X or PC.

On the bright side, with the ps5 apparently close ish, ps exclusives should be able to play in even better resolutions. Just to bad Sony's to stubborn to do any sort of backwards compatibility.
