All three are dual SIM 4G/3G.
Moto G6 Plus 64GB/4GB Deep Indigo $399.20
Moto G6 32GB/3GB Indigo $319.20
Moto G6 Play 32GB/3GB Fine Gold $239.20
Moto G6 all varients are confirmed for Android P so it is bit future proof if someone concerns. I use Moto G5 plus dual sim & very happy with it.
Also on the G5+ and love it; came from G5 as dropped it and screen malfunctioned.
No nonsense plain Android that is quick and easy to use. Highly recommend unless you want Pixel or OnePlus quality photos.
Are there any other decent options around the $400 mark? Or is there I phone that might drop to 400 soon that I should "wait it out" for?
I'm with you on this. Local model with B28 ~400 with headphone jack and 4gb ram.
I could afford to get a ~500 phone but the g6 plus looks like very good value to me.
What about the Huawei Nova 3e? $320 with the 20% off or <$300 if also using gift cards.
The reviews aren't good for Huawei Nova 3e, but I'm am open to correction.
@[Deactivated]: Which reviews are those?
4.6 stars on Google out of 2,027 reviwes
4.8 stars on JB Hi-Fi
generally positive thread on Whirlpool
Individual reviewers may find things to pick on, but overall it seems like a very good phone.. And for $320 (or less) and with 2 year Australian warranty, it seems like a steal.
@axel32: Compared to the G6 plus. Main gripe was about the snappy-ness of the phone.

I do agree that it is very good value, but that ~$40 isn't much to me when I can get a better performing cpu.
Additionally, I'm not too happy with the report the Huawei programmed their phone to over-boost when benchmarking with 3Dmark, leading to artificially inflated benchmarking values.

Great value phone yes, but I'd rather pay $40 more (after TRS) for the g6+
You might get lucky and snag a Nokia 7.1 towards the start of Nov for a smidge under $500 but that's still 25 percent more than the G6+.
JB hifi quoted me $615 fro the Nokia 7.1 today.
RRP is $499 according to Lifehacker https://www.lifehacker.com.au/2018/10/nokia-7-1-australian-p…
Was quoted 660 for Nokia 7 plus from JB hifi. ( I think they are different right? )
@[Deactivated]: Just saw that they were 15% off in May. no deal.
@Suckerzpayretail: Thanks!
@[Deactivated]: Yeah they are
Nokia 7.1 in Australia will be the 3GB/32GB version.

How does the Samsung J5 compare? All the Moto's listed here are splashproof which is at least one positive for the Moto's. Anything else I should keep in mind?
I would get J7 pro instead of J5 pro. It has better camera, bigger screen,NFC, feel like better built ( not sure about B28 or splash proof)
I have a J5 pro and it does have NFC. The camera is rubbish though and after about 6 months or so of low intensity use it's starting to get quite laggy. I don't even have much installed on it.
I picked one for $400 in early July and used TRS, for $360 it is a bargain. If you like the moto actions, which are a great feature, its a no-brainer, also the camera is much better than i expected.
A also picked this one up with the last special and am very happy with the phone. I've been using Nexus phones for a while until my 5X died and I picked up a HTC that i was never really happy with. Battery life on the G6 plus is the best that I've had and the Moto features are a bonus. For the price, for me, it's a win, IMHO. Both the Dual SIM & Micro SD card are handy & the only thing that I see missing is wireless charging, but this is not a big issue as I've got plenty of USB-C cables around.
I have the G6+ from the previous TGG sale. Highly recommended. Has not lagged once. Camera is excellent. Nice big screen. Battery life easy one day for me. Calls, browing, 5 email accounts running, google maps morning and night to avoid traffic (say 1-2hrs map time)
I have the G6 Play but I had to buy it overseas whilst in Europe. I dropped my Samsung Galaxy S7 in a waterfall in Croatia and needed something to get by for the rest of the trip until I got back and replaced it with a Pixel 3 or a OnePlus 6T.
However, it's been a month since it's happened and I'm certain I won't be upgrading any time soon.
For the price, the G6 Play is unbeatable. I easily have a whole days charge even when I'm watching 2 hours of YouTube, whilst streaming Spotify throughout the day along with heavy use of social media.
Even if I go home and I'm at 30% charge, I can go for a night out and have peace of mind the phone will last the whole night if I'm not heavily using it. If I'm planning to have a big night, I can even get away with 50% charge and be sweet for the night and next morning.
The turbocharge is pretty decent too - can easily have enough for hours (light use) from 30 mins of charging!
Can't advocate for this phone enough.
Only negative is the camera. Good for a snap or two but don't expect flagship quality photos.
Some would say the 720p screen is a negative but realistically 720p is perfectly fine and I can still watch Netflix or YouTube happily on it and if that's what I have to sacrifice for amazing battery life, it's worth it.
Tl;dr - budget phone that is amazing at everything you need it to do, especially battery life (4000mah is amazing).Downside is the camera.
You dropped your phone down a waterfall?
Is there a cool story to go along with that?
Went to Krka National Park in Croatia, went to the edge of the safety rope to take a photo of the missus (boyfriends of instagram represent) - turns out phones are slippery when wet and bam! Hello Motorola G6 Play :)
(also Samsungs aren't that waterproof)
No band 28?
This deal is tempting, I was thinking of going for a refurbished phone (Pixel or S7/S8) as mine has unexpectedly died.
Can anyone advise if there are anymore issues like the lack of band 28 that may affect the user experience?
Any constructive assistance would be greatly appreciated :)
Haven't had any issues with mine - get great coverage (I'm in Sydney with Optus)
They all have band 28. The G6 Play does not have NFC and is micro USB not type C.
thanks for the reply folks. I just had a look at a quick comparison between the pixel and the g6 and it didn't list band 28, saying that I am not sure which region the phone are from that were in the comparison.
I have 200 in ebay vouchers so it looks like I might be getting a g6
What makes you think it has no band 28?
It does.
see above
Does vodafone go onto b28? From what I read the answer is no, so for us Kogan users….
I avoid vodafone if possible. From memory B28 is needed in Canberra, I port hop btw
There doesn’t seem to be much difference between the g6 play & the e5. Is the g6 play worth the extra.
that link is misleading as it shows as really low spec g6 play - (ie quad core) and its comparing it with the e5+ not the e5
try this link https://www.gadgetsnow.com/compare-mobile-phones/Moto-E5-vs-…
Does this have the best camera for this price point?
So i'm not all that knowledgable about the tech side of things, but is the "plus" worth the extra $80?
I know it's a little bit bigger, has a slightly better processor and is 64gb/4gb, but are all those things really worth the $80 or would the G6 do the trick.
I'm not a super heavy user - a bit of social, youtube and web surfing. No gaming and just the odd photos of the family or out and about.
I would guess not from your description. If you don't see a feature that makes you think, yeah I've gotta have that, then you don't need it. Me I can use the extra storage and RAM but I'm hanging out for a deal within 60 days of my next OS trip.
G6 Play has now dropped to $239.20, have updated.
Good news is price dropped further and bad news is I bought it yesterday..
Hopefully they refund the difference
Just to be certain there is no NFC on the G6 play?
I was keen to get this model but was told it has no NFC. I hope someone could confirm this.
As per Moto AU website, it doesnt have NFC.
I am also searching for a mid range phone for my wife but wanted NFC. probably will go for G6 Plus. I use G5 plus and has been going strong for the last 1.5 years.
Is it worth getting this over the nokia 7 plus after TRS?
Moto g6 plus = 360 aud
Nokia 7 plus = 600 aud
