i think u can enter anything as answer and it doesn't affect your outcome of chance of winning. I remember afew years ago when working on a client website that they must include such a question to make it a valid competition or something.
Really depends on the competition. Some are like that, some are not.
You can never be sure so I tend to err on the side of caution and put in a real answer with some thought behind it.
