Looking for a Student-Friendly Laptop around $700

Hi,
Looking for a laptop for University with the following conditions:
Good battery life
Minimum 500gb HDD storage (spare slot for SSD would be great!)
Decent specs
Light and easy to carry (I will be travelling a lot)

My budget is around the $700 mark.
Any help is appreciated, thanks!

P.S No Macbooks please! :)

    • 15" laptop is too big for a student.

      • Not necessarily, although many do prefer smaller.

Swap out any hdd with a ssd. I'd never use a laptop with a hdd as the primary/OS drive. Too slow.

More importantly - what is the laptop being used for - I. E. What course?

I recommend checking out the Dell Outlet.
    My recommended specs are:
    - Intel Core i5
    - 8GB RAM
    - FHD (1920x1080), especially if you're going 15" or larger
    - SSD (with HDD as secondary drive if possible)

This is great for general use but more may need to considered if you have additional requirements. For example,
    Touch or non-touch?
    Size?
Will you be gaming on it?
Is it just general use (browsing, Word, etc) or will you need to run resource heavy applications (CAD, photo/video editors, simulators, etc)?

    • +1 for the Dell Outlet. Great prices, products and service.

    • I won't be gaming at all as I already have a gaming PC.
Never used any touchscreen laptop in the past — don't really mind to be honest.
      Prefer less than 15" size.
I'll just be using it for browsing/word/coding etc

  • Sweet spot would about 13 inch but at that size you are entering a premium segment.

Dell Outlet is excellent but everything is out of stock when just checked.

The best I can find is HP Probook 430 G4 13.3" at around $850.

    Here is one from eBay.

If you don't mind second hand I would search for a second hand Lenovo T470/T460 or X270/X260 on eBay.

  • I don't mind any, as long as it's working and will last at least 3 years.
