    WHAT'S WITH ALL THE BOLD?

  • what's the difference between .com and .com.au (obvs aus)but what is the actual difference? does it affect search, security etc

    • -3

.com.au TLDs are definitely lot more secure and you also need an valid ABN to be able to get one. They also rank higher on google in terms of keywords for the local businesses that are targeting the Australian Market.

More secure? Lol. TLDs have zero effect on the security of the server.

The only difference is the requirement of an ABN.

The other difference for .com.au is that if someone tries to register your brandname, trademark, business name, etc, theoretically you can get it off them.

The main reason to get a .com.au is if people looking for your business would try to blindly go to yourbusiness.com.au.

Yes more secure, not in regards to security of the server but it's harder for someone to steal your domain and .AU lockdown is also available.

In regards to which one should one buy for their business , we always recommend buy both .com and .com.au to get the more traffic and even if someone misses the .au at the end will automatically directed to the webpage

@Yolo4Days: Every bit of the garbage you wrote about security here is a lie.

Registrar locks are on all good TLDs. https://www.icann.org/resources/pages/locked-2013-05-03-en

Also ABNs are not validated. You can enter any from the ABN lookup page, if you want to be extra fancy you can use someone with a similar name.

This is misleading behaviour by the retailer, have a negative vote.

          • @Yolo4Days: lol no

@goatwomble: Each to their own guys, I would rather have someone take/hack my Australian domain name as I know I am going to get it back eventually same can't be said for .com domain names hence I made the suggestion, not trying to mislead anyone here.

  • I was mistaken. Since 1st July .com.au domain names can now be registered for periods of 1 to 5 years. It was previously only 2 year periods at a time
